About the Client

Our client is a global fintech company operating at the intersection of crypto and traditional payments. It serves millions of users worldwide through two business lines: a B2C retail platform for buying, selling, and swapping crypto, and B2B infrastructure providing on/off-ramp APIs, payouts, and compliance infrastructure for fintechs, wallets, and platforms.

The company is regulated in several jurisdictions, including a MiCA CASP authorisation and a PSD2 Payment Institution licence in the EU, as well as AML registrations in North America. It is one of a small group of European companies holding both authorisations at the same time.

About the Role

The company is looking for an experienced Senior Compliance Officer to strengthen the Global Compliance team and report directly to the Global Chief Compliance Officer.

This is a regulatory licensing and documentation role, not an operational AML position. The focus is on drafting licence applications, building compliance frameworks, handling regulator and counsel RFIs, and making sure documented controls work in practice. Operational AML knowledge matters for credibility, but case queues are not part of the job.

The team is looking for a senior professional who can work independently: someone who identifies missing facts, maps regulatory requirements, proposes a way forward, and carries documents through submission and regulatory challenge.

What You'll Do

• Contribute to licence applications and regulatory projects: programmes of operations, business plans, AML/CFT frameworks, safeguarding, governance and outsourcing descriptions.

• Build regulatory requirement matrices and application document maps; own evidence collection and document control.

• Prepare and coordinate responses to RFIs and comments from regulators, external counsel and consultants.

• Draft, review and maintain policies, procedures, methodologies, risk assessments and control descriptions.

• Track the implementation of regulatory commitments after submission and verify that controls operate in practice.

• Advise on new products, partners, jurisdictions, outsourcing arrangements and business model changes.

• Review and advise on complex AML, sanctions, CDD/KYB and transaction monitoring escalations.

• Monitor regulatory developments, assess their impact and translate them into changes to policies, processes and controls.

• Run gap analyses, thematic reviews and risk assessments; coordinate remediation of findings and breaches.

• Support regulatory reporting, notifications, audits and inspections.

• Provide compliance guidance and training to the business.

What We're Looking For

Required

• 5+ years of regulatory compliance experience, including 3+ years in regulated payments, e-money, cryptoassets or a closely comparable fintech environment.

• Personal, hands-on drafting of regulatory application materials, policies or AML/CFT frameworks, with clear ownership of what you wrote.

• Hands-on knowledge of at least one authorisation framework: UK EMI/payment services, UK MLR cryptoasset registration, EEA EMI/PI, MiCA/CASP or Jersey VASP.

• A practical understanding of the differences between EMI/PI, CASP/VASP and AML registration perimeters.

• Ability to navigate primary legislation and regulatory guidance independently.

• Working knowledge of AMLD/FATF standards, sanctions, outsourcing and governance requirements.

• Understanding of how transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, blockchain analytics and case management controls are designed and evidenced.

• Experience with Sumsub, ComplyAdvantage, Scorechain, Fireblocks or equivalent tools.

• Understanding of investigation, escalation and SAR/STR reporting governance.

• Fluent professional English with excellent written drafting.

• Ability to work independently within European business hours and travel occasionally to the company's EU office.

Nice to Have

• Preparing or coordinating an EEA/UK or comparable regulatory application through submission, RFI and decision stages.

• Experience within an authorised EMI, PI, CASP, VASP or other regulated financial institution.

• Business-wide risk assessments, customer risk methodologies, safeguarding and outsourcing documentation.

• Managing regulatory RFIs, audits, inspections, interviews and application trackers.

• A business combining cryptoasset and payment services across B2C and B2B.

• Background in a regulator, specialist regulatory consultancy or law firm, combined with in-house implementation experience.

• Knowledge of DORA, operational resilience, data protection and regulatory reporting.

• Independent SAR/STR filing experience.

• A degree in law, finance, economics or risk/compliance; CAMS, ICA, CGSS or a comparable certification.

• This role is for compliance professionals who want to author regulatory work, not administer it.

• You'll work across several parallel licensing applications in different jurisdictions, with direct exposure to regulators, counsel and senior leadership.

• The team expects senior officers to work with ambiguous and evolving facts, keep documents consistent under a high evidentiary standard, and challenge stakeholders constructively while staying independent.

• You'll help build the company's regulatory project and documentation capability from within the Global Compliance team.

Working Environment

• Remote or hybrid within an approved European location.

• Minimum 4-hour overlap with the European working day.

• Direct reporting to the Global Chief Compliance Officer.

• Daily work with Compliance/AML colleagues and regular collaboration with Legal, Product, Operations, Finance, Risk and Security.

• Weekly prioritisation meetings and workstream check-ins.

• Occasional travel to the company's EU office.
