Job Role: Senior Accountant

Compensation range: $2,500 AUD - $3,000 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.

Who The Client Is: Our client is a growing Australian finance and accounting services firm supporting businesses across construction, manufacturing, resources, agriculture, and other industries. They provide hands-on support across accounting, bookkeeping, financial reporting, forecasting, and commercial analysis, working closely with clients to improve financial performance and business operations.

As the business continues to grow, they are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the integration of a newly acquired business and oversee day-to-day financial operations.

Role Overview: We are looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant to take ownership of a portfolio of Australian clients and support the day-to-day delivery of accounting and bookkeeping services. This is a practical, delivery-focused role. You will be expected to perform bookkeeping and accounting tasks, as well as review the work of junior bookkeepers, prepare management accounts and BAS, and help improve processes as the practice grows.

You will work directly with the Director and this is a high-trust role suited to a qualified or near-qualified accountant who is self-reliant, proactive, and comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy.

• Take ownership of an acquired portfolio of Australian clients and ensure a smooth transition.
• Perform bookkeeping and accounting tasks across the client portfolio.
• Review and quality-check work completed by junior bookkeepers, providing guidance and mentorship.
• Prepare and review management accounts and BAS.
• Support the delivery of bookkeeping and accounting services across the client portfolio.
• Progressively supervise additional offshore team members as the team grows.
• Identify opportunities to improve workflows, accuracy, and efficiency using AI tools such as Claude.
• Work independently, take ownership, and escalate issues when needed.

Requirements

• CPA or CA qualified, or actively progressing towards qualification.

• Strong accounting experience, ideally working with Australian businesses.
• Proven experience reviewing or supervising junior bookkeepers/accounting staff.
• Confident with management accounts and BAS.
• Strong knowledge of accounting systems such as Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB, or Reckon.
• Excellent attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated and comfortable working independently.
• Interest or experience in using AI tools such as Claude to improve workflows.
