At this exciting, dangerous and pivotal time for issues around national security and defence, Sky News is looking for a Security Correspondent, to spearhead our journalism in this

crucial subject.  This person will have an enthusiastic appetite to break stories, and to provide premium analysis and expertise, so that our users will actively seek it out.  This person will bring bold story ideas, special access and excellent storytelling to connect with Sky News audiences and bring them distinctive, premium journalism, thereby connecting with a growing community.  

What you'll do:​

• To cover stories and deliver original journalism about UK national security.  We anticipate this including terrorism, cyber attacks, attacks on infrastructure by foreign agents, political extremism and the extent to which its influenced from outside Britain, and the big picture of Britain's global strategic position.  This may involve sustaining relationships with the Home Office, intelligence services, and police.  The role doesn't require a granular knowledge of military matters, but an interest in defence & lively understanding of how global events relate to Britain is important.​

• To deliver this work across a range of platforms.  While the role doesn't require technical expertise, an appetite for embracing and exploring the potential of new platforms, and a willingness to learn and adapt in light of audience feedback, is important.​

• To help actively engage communities of Sky News users across all relevant platforms.  To do Q&A type sessions with them, and help think up new directions for us to grow and enthuse our users.  This may involve servicing Sky News commercial objectives through development of content associated with a personal brand.​

• To take on and beat our opposition when it comes to breaking significant stories, seizing and delivering innovative revelatory investigations, and providing specialist analysis.​

• To help shape and drive end to end content production, congruent with the objectives and workflows of the hub. ​

• Compelling on-screen communicator, able to explain complex issues with clarity, authority & charisma ​

• Ability to build communities of engaged subscribers with on-screen persona and delivery, supported through extensive community engagement​
