As a Scientist I within the Delivery Systems R&D organization, you will conduct research supporting the development of novel fragrance delivery technologies for IFF’s customers and business platforms.

You will be part of a technical team conducting research in the areas of encapsulation, microencapsulation, controlled release, materials science and delivery technology, supporting continued business growth at IFF.

Primary activities include execution of technical work under general supervision of senior technical staff, including experimental design, sample preparation, performance evaluation, data interpretation, documentation and recommendation of next steps.

• Conduct experimental research to develop novel and proprietary fragrance delivery systems and related technologies.
• Develop technical approaches and experimental plans under the guidance of senior technical staff.
• Prepare laboratory samples, prototypes and formulations for internal and external evaluation.
• Execute bench-level experiments, characterization studies, performance evaluations and stability testing.
• Analyze data, accurately document experiments, interpret results and propose next steps.
• Identify new materials, ingredients or process variables that may provide technical or competitive advantage.
• Act as a functional contributor on project teams and manage assigned project activities within defined scope.
• Collaborate with scientists, process engineers, analytical teams, sensory/performance teams and manufacturing partners; prepare technical reports, presentations and summaries to communicate results and recommendations.
• Contribute to invention disclosures, intellectual property generation and scientific knowledge building where appropriate.

What Makes You the Right Fit 

• PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Colloid Science, Physical Chemistry or a closely related field.
• Strong scientific foundation in chemistry, materials, polymers, colloids, formulations, interfacial science or related areas, with scientific rigor and a data-driven approach to experimental work.
• Demonstrated experimental research experience and ability to design, execute and interpret laboratory studies.
• Ability to function independently within an assigned technical area while receiving general scientific direction from senior staff.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills and technical curiosity, with an innovation mindset to explore new materials and technical routes to create differentiated delivery solutions.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to document experiments accurately, present results clearly, and translate experimental findings into clear conclusions and actionable next steps.
• Ability to work with global and technically diverse teams and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Fluency in English.
• Demonstrated ability to combine scientific rigor, innovation, collaboration and communication to advance research objectives and technical solutions.

How Would You Stand Out?

• Research experience in encapsulation, microencapsulation, fragrance and/or flavor delivery systems, controlled release or consumer product formulation, with a background in material science, interfacial science, colloid science, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry or polymer chemistry.
• Experience with analytical characterization, stability testing, performance evaluation or formulation screening, gained through industrial R&D, innovation environments, external collaborations or applied technology development.
• Experience publishing scientific work, presenting research or contributing to patentable technology concepts, demonstrating applied research, innovation and technology development capabilities.
