Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment

• Mentor student workers as applicable to the tasks at hand

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the scene shop and associated workspaces

• Participate in all load-ins, changeovers, and strikes throughout the contract period

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• BA in Theater or equivalent work experience 

• Minimum 4 years experience in theatrical carpentry

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

•  Read and interpret construction drawings and cut lists

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

• Knowledge and experience with hardware and build techniques

• Proficiency in wood construction and theatrical rigging 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Troubleshooting and problem solving skills

• Punctuality, dependability, and ability to work independently

• Strong leadership and teamwork skills

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
   

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee overhire and student crew in relationship with the Assistant Technical Director
   

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Indoor environments, some with low light: workshop, control booth, stages, backstage areas, office spaces 

• Seated and standing positions
   

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC:

• Occasional nights and weekends required

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds

• Must be comfortable with heights in excess of 24 feet

• Must be able to work in tight, dark spaces

The rate for this position is $26-$28/hour.
