We are seeking a technically sharp, performance-driven, and collaborative Roblox Developer to craft best in class, high fidelity experiences that redefine interactive entertainment. You'll work alongside game designers, artists, and engineers at Sawhorse to build immersive, scalable, and engaging gameplay for top-tier gaming and entertainment brands. Using the latest Roblox technologies, advanced scripting techniques, and performance optimization strategies, you'll push the boundaries of the platform and deliver seamless play across PC, mobile, and console.

This is an hourly freelance position, with expected availability Monday through Friday during core working hours of 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM PST. 

Requirements

• Gameplay Development: Design, develop, and optimize high-quality Roblox experiences with clean, efficient, and scalable Luau code.
• Creative and Product Partnership: Partner with Creative and Product teams to translate creative vision and KPIs into engaging, data-driven gameplay.
• Feature Ownership: Own development cycles from concept to execution, upholding best practices and Roblox development standards throughout.
• Client and Stakeholder Alignment: Coordinate with clients and stakeholders to keep the technical execution of gameplay features aligned with project objectives and brand requirements.
• Cross-Functional Implementation: Collaborate with designers and engineers to implement gameplay mechanics, UI/UX features, and interactive elements.
• Game Systems: Build custom character controllers, AI behavior, and dynamic game mechanics using Object-Oriented Programming principles.
• QA and Performance: Work with QA and product managers to troubleshoot, debug, and optimize features for performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Cross-Platform Optimization: Optimize gameplay across PC, mobile, and console while maintaining graphical and interactive consistency.Platform Innovation: Stay ahead of new Roblox technologies and implement StreamingEnabled, MemoryStoreService, and advanced data handling techniques to push the platform forward.

Qualifications

A strong candidate for this position should have the following qualities:

• Experience: 6 to 10 years of development experience on the Roblox platform, including 4+ years of programming in Luau.
• Roblox Studio and Scripting: Advanced proficiency in Roblox Studio and the Roblox API, including object-oriented programming, CFrame manipulation, UI/UX scripting, and performance optimization.
• Backend Services: Strong working knowledge of Roblox DataStores, MemoryStoreService, and efficient data handling techniques.
• Version Control: Proficiency with GitHub and Rojo in team-based, collaborative coding workflows.
• Cross-Platform Delivery: Proven ability to ship experiences that perform consistently across PC, mobile, and console.
• Communication: Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both developers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Independence and Collaboration: Self-starter with strong time management skills who thrives both independently and within a remote, fast-paced team.

Nice To Have's

• Experience with open-source Roblox libraries such as Nevermore, Maids, Promises, and Signals
• Game UX design experience building smooth, intuitive user flows on Roblox
• Roblox Studio plugin development to streamline team workflows
•  Background in vector math, procedural animation, and physics-based interactions
• Custom avatar rigging and character animation pipeline experience
• Familiarity with front-end web frameworks, API integrations, and external server communication

Benefits

$30 to $45 per hour depending on experience
