The Centralized PERS (CPERS) unit resides within the Office of State Controller. This unit is responsible for administering, reporting and ensuring that state agency employee PERS information is accurate and state employee retirement data is correctly posted to PERS member accounts. CPERS works to research, analyze, audit and correct complex state employee data which spans decades of information, crosses multiple operational systems, and includes application and interpretation of PERS specific legislation and policy parameters which differ from traditional state agency policies.

As the Retirement Services Assistant you will act as a liaison between state agencies, Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) staff and employees to resolve retirement account discrepancies and ensure consistent administration of retirement accounts for more than 55,000 current State of Oregon employees, terminated employees and retirees. You will research employee records and determine corrective actions necessary to allow suspended records to post and ensure employee retirement accounts are accurate and consistent across all state agencies. Additionally, you will provide guidance, administrative, analytical and technical advice and support in implementation and ongoing administration of the statewide PERS pension plan and other special project assignments.

This Is What You Need to Qualify

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, Finance, Political Science or any degree demonstrating the capacity for the knowledge and skills; OR

  • Any combination of experience or education equivalent to three years technical-level experience that typically supports the knowledge and skill requirements listed for the classification.

Desired Attributes:

  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of state human resources, payroll and/or PERS functions and information systems as they relate to processing of state employee personnel, payroll and retirement account transactions.

  • General knowledge of state laws, rules, and policies related to the state’s pension program and their impact on state government employees and PERS reporting.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of information technology as it relates to processing of state employee personnel, payroll and retirement account transactions.

  • Ability to analyze data and problem solve.

  • Proactive, detail and solution oriented with the ability to organize and prioritize completing deadlines.

  • Demonstrated communication and team player skills.

Preference Statement:

Preference may be given to those candidates with prior experience working in payroll, human resource or retirement/pension services.

  • This position is a hybrid role and will be expected to work in Salem Oregon at a minimum of 1-2 days a week.   • This announcement is for one, full-time, permanent, SEIU represented, Retirement Services Assistant (Operations & Policy Analyst 1) position.

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%. Please review the Classification and Compensation page for more details on the classification, or you may visit our website for information on the updated job offer process following Pay Equity.

  • Employee is required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the state where the employee resides or provide an effective alternative method of transportation.
