This internship is specifically designed for individuals working towards a PhD who are developing proficiency in their field. As an intern or co-op in management, you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in a supportive environment.  This is a 12-week paid internship, designed to provide you with a solid foundation for future career growth. The Opportunity:

P&G has an opportunity for a PhD intern to work in our Corporate Function R&D area.  In this internship you will explore how computational modeling and simulation can provide deeper insight into the molecular mechanisms that govern material behavior. Working at the intersection of polymer physics, computational science, and materials innovation, you will investigate whether molecular and multiscale modeling approaches can explain observed material performance, generate new structure-property hypotheses, and enable more intentional materials design.

The project offers the opportunity to collaborate with both experimental scientists and computational modelers. By the end of the internship, you will have assessed whether modern simulation and theoretical tools can serve as practical design capabilities for accelerating materials innovation and reducing dependence on trial-and-error experimentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate computational approaches relevant to polymer science, soft materials, and molecular modeling
• Apply simulation and theoretical methods to representative polymer systems
• Develop and execute demonstration simulations using multiscale modeling approaches
• Compare model predictions with experimental observations and technical design needs
• Create scripts and workflows for simulation setup, execution, and analysis
• Assess whether modeling can generate new design hypotheses, improve material selection, or reduce experimental iteration
• Document findings and present recommendations to technical partners

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Working towards a PhD in Polymer Science, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Soft Matter Physics, or related discipline.
• Experience in polymer physics, soft materials, molecular simulation, molecular dynamics, coarse-grained modeling, computational chemistry, or multiscale materials modeling.
• Programming experience in Python is required. Experience with molecular simulation packages, such as LAMMPS or similar tools, would be particularly relevant.
• Familiarity with the mechanical behavior of soft materials (e.g., dynamic mechanical analysis and tensile testing).
• Available to work a 12-week internship from May/early June to August in the summer of 2027. This is an in-person internship; candidate is expected to work from our Mason Business Center 3-5 days a week.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Basic understanding of polymer synthesis methods and standard chemistry laboratory practices.
• Experience working with film-forming materials would be valuable.
