Position Information
Job Summary:
The Project Manager II for the Center for Managed Technology Services (CMTS) manages medium-scope, complex technology projects from planning through implementation. The position exercises independent judgment in developing project plans, coordinating resources and activities, tracking budgets, timelines, deliverables, and risks, and providing periodic project evaluations and status reports. This role supervises, coordinates, and assists with the completion of CMTS projects and develops and coordinates project plans through full implementation.
The Project Manager II serves as a senior business operations resource for CMTS, supporting block-based service delivery, cost recovery, and research IT operations. The role requires the ability to manage complex organizational processes, generate project and implementation reporting, while ensuring compliance with university, system, and sponsor requirements.
The position supports CMTS as a proactively managed IT service and research support service center, requiring strong organizational capability and the ability to coordinate across technical teams, researchers, leadership, and partner institutions.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates, manages, and implements one-time CMTS client projects from project initiation through completion, ensuring approved scope, timelines, deliverables, resources, and project requirements are effectively managed.
- Develops and maintains project plans, schedules, milestones, tasks, dependencies, risks, and deliverables in coordination with CMTS technical teams and project stakeholders.
- Utilizes CMTS project management and reporting tools, including Asana, Power BI, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft 365, to manage project activities, maintain documentation, track progress, and support project reporting.
- Coordinates project resources across CMTS service areas, including Technology & Engineering, Software & Applications, Web & Digital Platforms, Data & Informatics, and other technical teams as required by the project scope.
- Facilitates project kickoff meetings, status meetings, technical coordination meetings, and project closeout activities to maintain alignment on responsibilities, timelines, dependencies, and deliverables.
- Monitors project progress against the approved Service Engagement Document (SED), Statement of Work (SOW), project plan, estimated technical capacity, and established milestones, escalating risks, delays, scope changes, or resource constraints when appropriate.
- Maintains accurate and current project records and documentation, including project plans, meeting notes, decisions, action items, status updates, risks, deliverables, and closeout documentation.
- Coordinates with CMTS resource managers and technical leads to support resource scheduling, workload planning, and Service Block capacity tracking for assigned projects.
- Develops and maintains project dashboards and performance reports to provide visibility into project status, timelines, capacity utilization, risks, and completion progress.
- Supports project change management by documenting changes to scope, schedule, capacity, or deliverables and coordinating review and approval with appropriate CMTS leadership and project stakeholders.
- Coordinates project activities with clients throughout implementation to obtain required information, schedule project activities, communicate status, address project-level questions, and support timely completion of deliverables.
- Supports the development and continuous improvement of CMTS project management standards, templates, workflows, documentation, and reporting practices to promote consistent project delivery across the organization.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Five years of related experience in project management, project coordination, or a related area.
- Advanced knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Knowledge of standard proofreading.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across technical teams, research faculty, leadership, and external partner institutions.
- Ability to multitask, manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgment, and work cooperatively with others in a dynamic, high-volume service-center and research support environment.
- Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification through PMI.

Salary: Compensation for this position is commensurate based on the selected candidate’s qualifications.
Sponsorship: Non-immigrant foreign nationals are prohibited by export control laws from performing the employment responsibilities associated with this position; sponsorship is not available at this time.
Flexible Work Arrangements: This is a full-time, on-site position. Remote work is not available for this role at this time. The successful candidate will be expected to work on-site during their regularly scheduled work hours.
