As the Project Accountant you are responsible for the accurate and timely entry and reporting of data in the company financial systems. You will be responsible for: accounts receivable, subcontract management, payroll, equipment time entry, accounts payable, month end and key financial reporting/analysis. You will partner with management and project teams, through effective communication, to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of data, while also helping them to leverage that data to enhance business performance.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Support cost reporting, forecasting, and strategic analysis while implementing effective project cost control processes
• Interpret and communicate contractual and commercial terms, ensuring alignment with project requirements and obligations
• Prepare and present project reporting, financial insights, and key performance information to project leadership
• Support the development and implementation of collective agreements and related commercial requirements
• Coordinate documentation required for invoicing, including statutory declarations, WCB clearance letters, LEMs, third-party invoices, equipment rentals, progress billings, and holdback releases
• Process electronic billing submissions, reconcile client billing systems, and make adjustments to ensure accurate and timely invoicing
• Monitor outside rental agreements against contractual requirements and coordinate with field teams and payroll to ensure timely and accurate time entry
• Partner with Project Management and field teams to identify potential change orders, manage subcontractor activities, and support commercial project administration
• Prepare month-end journal entries and ensure accurate financial reporting, reconciliations, and close-out activities
  

Qualifications:

• The ideal candidate will have a minimum 1-3 years of experience in a similar role
• Experience within commercial construction or a related industry is preferred
• Must have knowledge of JD Edwards or similar large ERP is preferred
• Working knowledge of construction methods preferred
• Financial acumen regarding equipment utilization, rates, equipment capital decisions, and profitability analysis
• Working knowledge of construction accounting principles preferred
• Strong analytical skills and problem solving
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Working Conditions:

• This is a hybrid position, working 2-3 days per week in the office with the possibility of additional in office presence increasing due to business needs
