Our employee-owned and integrated team of multi-discipline engineering and design professionals is looking for a Project Manager / Professional Structural Engineer who has extensive experience managing a portfolio of various heavy industrial projects and thorough knowledge of structural design standards and requirements in relation to heavy industrial operations and processes.
As a member of our team, we will leverage your project management talents to deliver full-service, multi-discipline solutions for complex plant/building and site operations systems within heavy industrial sectors, including mining, mineral processing, aggregate, and metals. As a project manager, you would lead project teams for a variety of projects ranging from facility design to demolition and from balance of plant to material handling, and you would be responsible for all technical, quality, and financial aspects of a project from conception through construction.
In addition to project management, you would assist with market development efforts by collaborating with the technical group managers, market managers, and division leadership to further advance our services by contributing to the development of business plans, maintaining client relations, developing proposals, and participating in client presentations.
Furthermore, as a professional structural engineer, you will have the opportunity to showcase your technical expertise by scoping project requirements, leading design efforts, verifying calculations and validating equipment sizing and selection, developing detailed drawings, and drafting technical specifications and reports. You will also have the opportunity to share your knowledge and professional experiences by mentoring and developing less experienced team members.
Location and Work Arrangement
This position could be based out of Duluth, MN or Bloomington, MN; however, candidates must reside within a regular commuting distance from one of the two locations. TKDA offers flexible hybrid work arrangements, with employees typically working three days in the office and two days remotely, in alignment with business needs. Regular travel (10-20%) to other TKDA offices, project or client locations, and industry-specific conferences will be required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
Professional Engineer with 5-15 years of previous experience designing buildings and building type structures and preparing plans and specifications.
Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.
Strong working knowledge of steel, cast-in-place concrete, masonry, and precast concrete design.
Extensive experience working in a team environment and coordinating structural designs with multi-discipline teams.
Strong, effective verbal and written communication skills with project team members and clients.
Proven ability to follow design standards and quality assurance procedures.
Ability to travel up to 20% for team meetings, client consultations, site inspections, etc. Much of this travel is clients local in the area.
Advantageous Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to leverage your technical knowledge to coach, mentor, and develop less experienced structural engineering professionals (ie. EIT, recent PE).
Experience working with heavy industrial or mining projects.
Ability to effectively respond to and manage client communications and relationships.
Previous business development experience, including preparation of proposals and fee estimates.
