Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

The Fantasy Platform Engineering team builds systems that power games on ESPN including Fantasy League Manager (Fantasy Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey), and Prediction Games (Tournament Challenge, NFL Pick ‘Em etc) that scales to millions of individual users. As a Product Software Engineer, you will help drive the platform forward by delivering efficient back-end code on new and existing features, while collaborating directly with stakeholders on the client side and other engineering teams

Responsibilities

• Write efficient, reliable, and testable code from requirements given.
• Design and implement automated code and system tests.
• Review, analyze, and optimize code for readability, reliability, and performance.
• Instrument, monitor, and support live operations of systems your team owns.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues, problems, and errors encountered across company platforms.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Contribute and review code, set standards, and work with engineers to ensure product and design specifications are met.
• Test code through various means: unit tests, integration tests, performance tests etc.
• Maintain a deep understanding of our core systems and how they interact with upstream and downstream dependencies.
• Responsible for fundamental platform performance, scalability, and resiliency.
• Contribute to cross-functional troubleshooting of complex issues as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Java programming language, Spring Framework, and Maven dependency management.
• Understanding of API design and distributed web service architecture.
• Expertise with full lifecycle of application development, including best practices of unit testing, code reviews, documentation, etc.
• Awareness of dev-ops workflows and related technologies.
• Experience leveraging cloud platform services, preferably within AWS.
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies. Can effectively articulate complex ideas and influence others through well-reasoned explanations.
• Enjoy working within a team setting of engineers of varying experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skill with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience using modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, or similar) to improve code quality, accelerate development, and enhance documentation.

#DISNEYTECH

The hiring range for this position in Bristol, CT is $117,500 to $157,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
