Position Summary
The Pricing Specialist position supports the West Division of the Commercial organization and is primarily responsible for daily pricing, analysis, allocation management, and reporting activities across multiple geographies and channels. The Pricing Specialist role works closely with internal business partners (Marketing Territory Managers, Schedulers, Traders, and IT) to support, propose, and execute strategies to optimize the value chain.
This individual will have the opportunity to participate in and lead both internal projects as well as cross-organizational projects. The position is an excellent opportunity for a self-starter, highly proficient in Microsoft PowerBI and Excel, with innovative analytical vision, to thrive in a dynamic environment and gain exposure to many facets of the company. Candidate must have a basic understanding of energy markets and industry dynamics, along with the ability to learn the pricing support role, lead analytical processes, and develop reports.
This position is part of a job family with multiple grade levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Executes daily pricing for multiple light products commodities, classes of trade, and geographies according to operational strategies and/or assigned geographies with management guidance.
- Collaborates with key business partners to execute short- and long-term strategies to maximize value chain contribution.
- Collaborates with Commercial Market teams to actively optimize sales vs. forecast.
- Analyzes monthly volume and netback performance within respective regions and channels
- Analyze patterns and competitive behavior within different geographic regions
- Supports growth and fulfills profitable product placement opportunities.
- Monitors market trends.
- Monitors market conditions, historical trends and performance, and competitor pricing activity. Reacts to prompt market conditions in alignment with strategies and execute daily operational functions.
- Assesses Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for pricing functions.
- Performs ad hoc analysis and communicate insights to management/operational teams.
- Efficiently utilizes Pricing systems and tools. Troubleshoot issues and collaborate with support partners to resolve promptly. Works with business partners to pursue enhancements and process improvements.
- Maintains complex pricing tools to analyze trends and track performance
- Supports identification of opportunities and helps implement processes improvements
- Supports new tools, proposes improvements, and identifies potential IT enhancements
- Supports ad-hoc project work and analysis
- Rotational weekend and holiday pricing & allocation support
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Two (2) or more years of experience in analytical, pricing, fuel marketing/sales, supply operations, or revenue/profitability management roles required
- Proficient user in Microsoft Excel and PowerBI (development experience preferred)
- Process improvement and results driven mindset
- Knowledge of U.S. West Coast petroleum supply and markets and understanding of key business drivers preferred
- Knowledge of MarketView and OPIS Benchmarks preferred
- Ability to develop and maintain complex pricing models and reports preferred
