As our new Western Power Sector Lead, you will play a strategic leadership role in driving the growth of SLR's power sector business across Western Canada. This position combines business leadership, technical expertise, client relationship management, and team development to expand SLR's market presence and deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.

The role reports directly to the North America Practice Leader, Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and works closely with the Canadian Power Sector Lead to develop and execute sector growth strategies, enhance client relationships, and strengthen SLR's position in the power and energy market.

As both a senior practitioner and business leader, you will maintain a meaningful level of chargeable work through active participation in project delivery, regulatory strategy, strategic advisory services, project oversight, and client management activities. The successful candidate will balance technical excellence and project execution with business development, sector leadership, and team growth responsibilities.

The role will focus on supporting utilities, independent power producers, renewable energy developers, transmission companies, energy storage proponents, and emerging energy technology providers as they navigate evolving regulatory requirements, decarbonization initiatives, and the transition to a lower-carbon energy future. Through strong client relationships, market leadership, and technical expertise, you will help clients successfully advance complex projects from planning and permitting through construction and operation.
  

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership to support the growth and expansion of SLR Canada's power sector business.
• Grow the delivery of environmental, regulatory, permitting, and stakeholder engagement services across the power sector in Western Canada.
• Develop and execute sector growth strategies to expand SLR's market presence, client portfolio, and service offerings.
• Serve as a trusted advisor and senior client liaison, building and maintaining strong relationships with developers, utilities, Indigenous communities, regulators, and key industry stakeholders.
• Act as a senior practitioner, providing technical leadership and strategic guidance on environmental assessment, regulatory approvals, permitting, stakeholder engagement, and project development initiatives.
• Lead regulatory strategy development for power generation, transmission, renewable energy, battery energy storage, and grid infrastructure projects from planning through approval and construction.
• Identify and pursue strategic business opportunities while supporting proposal development, key account management, and client engagement activities.
• Champion an integrated services approach by connecting clients with the full breadth of SLR's technical capabilities.
• Collaborate with sector leads and technical teams across SLR's Canadian and global operations to deliver multidisciplinary solutions.
• Mentor and develop technical, project management, business development, and client-facing staff to support succession planning and long-term growth.
• Drive team building and capability development in key technical, project management, and client management disciplines.
• Promote and foster a positive, collaborative work environment aligned with SLR's One Team culture.
• Represent SLR at industry conferences, regulatory forums, client meetings, and professional associations to strengthen market visibility and industry relationships.

• The salary range for this position is $150,000-$180,000. Final agreed-upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree specializing in a related environmental discipline (environmental science or engineering, ecology, environmental law/policy).  

• 15+ years of experience specifically in environmental assessment and permitting in Western Canada.  

• Well-established reputation in the industry, with demonstrated credibility and visibility through regulatory engagement, client relationships, published work, conference participation, or association involvement.  

• Proven track record of developing business, building teams, and delivering high-quality EA and permitting services.  

• Strong technical writing skills, with an ability to synthesize technical information and develop plain-language summaries.  

• Deep understanding of municipal, provincial, and federal environmental regulatory and permitting requirements.  

• Experience in an environmental consulting environment required; prior leadership in growing practices or business lines is a strong asset.  

• Understanding of international environmental and social impact assessment standards is an asset.  

• Ability to travel within Canada periodically, as required.
