This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.
POSITION SPECIFICS
The Bisanz Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Penn State seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to investigate how the human gut microbiome shapes health and disease. We combine multi-omics, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), synthetic microbial communities, and gnotobiotic animal models to uncover how microbes interact with dietary components including xenobiotics to influence infectious and chronic diseases.
Responsibilities:
- Design and lead research projects investigating interactions among the gut microbiome, dietary components, drugs, and other xenobiotics.
- Develop and apply experimental and/or computational approaches appropriate to the project.
- Analyze and interpret data, prepare manuscripts, and present findings at scientific meetings.
- Collaborate with lab members and investigators across disciplines.
- Contribute to mentoring trainees and maintaining a rigorous, supportive, and inclusive research environment.
Applicants must hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree by the start date, with relevant training in microbiology, microbial ecology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, or a related field. This position is intended for scientists who have recently completed, or are completing, their doctoral training.
