Examples of Duties:

• Attends classes and receives instruction and training in various phases of police work and in a wide range of subject matter areas;

• Receives on-the-job training by accompanying experienced police officers on foot and motor patrols;

• Performs a variety of law enforcement duties under supervision of a senior officer or independently as part of training such as walking a beat, controlling traffic, enforcing traffic laws, conducting traffic and criminal investigations, making arrests, interviewing witnesses, victims and suspects or other suspicious characters and writing reports;

• Safeguards persons and property and rendering first aid as required;

• Serves warrants, subpoenas, and penal summonses;

• Assists in transporting prisoners;

• Prepares and assists in preparing reports of activities;

• May testify in court;

• Familiarizes self with general and special orders, administrative notices, police bulletins, and other materials;

• Qualifies with small side arms;

• May act in an undercover capacity; and

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Training and Experience: 

 A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school.

Age: All candidates for employment as a Police Services Officer II shall be at least twenty (20) years old at the time of filing application and 21 years old at the time of appointment.
    
Firearms Requirement: Applicants must meet Federal and State eligibility requirements to possess firearms.  Some examples of persons who are disqualified to carry firearms are persons who have been convicted of any felony, crime of violence, illegal sale of any drug, domestic violence (felony or misdemeanor), etc.

License Requirement: At the time of appointment, the candidate selected for hire will need to possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. A motorcycle license is not acceptable.

Special Working Conditions: Irregular hours, shift and weekend work and exposure to hazardous and obnoxious conditions as required.
