ROLE: Plumbing Apprentice
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Plumbing Apprentice will work with a plumbing technician learning and assisting in the installation and maintenance of plumbing systems. The apprentice must be career oriented and want to learn, master the trade, and take ownership of a career as a full-time technician. This employee will perform duties as assigned in a residential setting. They will work with numerous system parts and mechanisms.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, water heaters, and drainage systems.
- Learn to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to understand plumbing system requirements.
- Assist in the assembly, installation, and testing of plumbing systems and components, ensuring compliance with building codes and safety regulations.
- Observe and learn various plumbing techniques, such as soldering, brazing, threading, and pipe fitting, under the guidance of experienced plumbers.
- Assist in diagnosing plumbing issues, troubleshoot problems, and propose appropriate solutions.
- Collaborate with the plumbing team to ensure timely completion of projects while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
- Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery used in plumbing installations and repairs.
- Adhere to safety protocols and follow best practices to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
- Continuously develop technical skills and industry knowledge through on-the-job training and participation in relevant training programs.
- Assist in excavation projects, sewer and drain cleaning and various other projects related to the installation and maintenance of residential plumbing
- Perform appropriate communication with co-workers and customers
- Learn how to evaluate situations and take proper corrective action
- Use basic math computations needed to perform in the plumbing trade
- Complete other duties as assigned
MINIMUM / PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- High school diploma, completion of G.E.D.
- Equivalent technical school or work experience
- Operating knowledge and working proficiency with hand-held computer (i.e., smartphone, tablet).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required
SKILLS:
- Basic understanding of plumbing systems, tools, and equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and customers.
- Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and work as part of a team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift equipment, tools, products, and supplies, up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
