JOB PURPOSE
To implement the Participatory Health and Hygiene Education hardware and software components of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects.
Community Mobilisation & WASH Project implementation
• Plan, implement and monitor participatory WASH hardware and software promotion, and related activities for successful behaviour change of the project.
• Facilitate to ensure that project activities are implemented timely, efficiently and effectively to meet project objectives and standards.
• Mobilise local communities and stakeholders at ward and village levels to participate and contribute effectively in hardware and software behavioural change components of the project.
Participatory Sanitation and Hygiene Behaviour Change Promotion
• Facilitate participatory sanitation and hygiene education, and inclusive WASH programming in rural communities, promoting safe sanitation and hygiene practices while addressing gender, disability, age, vulnerability and access barriers, and mainstreaming child protection, environmental and social safeguards, disaster risk reduction, and the inclusion of elderly and disadvantaged groups to ensure safe, accessible, equitable and responsive interventions.
• Undertake the development and implementation of participatory sanitation and hygiene behaviour change through PHHE, Sanitation-Focused Participatory Health and Hygiene Education (SaFPHHE), and Nurturing Care Groups (NCGs) in line with the operational guidelines for hygiene promotion in rural areas.
• Promote the adoption of appropriate, affordable and low-cost WASH technologies, standards and pro-poor policies that promote sustainable service delivery and adequately account for the full operation and maintenance costs of WASH services.
WASH Assessments, Technical Support and Capacity Strengthening
• Support Rural District Councils in the development of long-term plans for sanitation and hygiene promotion interventions, strengthening their capacity through targeted training and provision of essential resources including mobility and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials for sustained sanitation and hygiene promotion by the central and local government.
• Assist with WASH needs assessments, baseline surveys, service-level inventories, and routine data collection and analysis to inform project planning, implementation, monitoring and evidence-based decision-making.
• Develop and submit accurate Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for the sanitation and hygiene components of the project.
• Build the capacity of government extension workers, healthcare workers, teachers, communities, and relevant facility management structures in sanitation and hygiene promotion across healthcare and educational facilities.
• Conduct mapping of project sites and Output Monitoring Surveys in mWATER platform as per donor reporting requirements.
Knowledge management, documentation and reporting
• Document and share timely project reports, project videos, stories of most significant change, photos which demonstrate impact and lessons learned for internal learning and donor requirements.
