Position Overview:

The PharmD Program Director will lead efforts to continue the school’s tradition of innovative teaching, learning, research, scholarship, and patient/client-centered care. This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly collaborative, forward-thinking, enthusiastic leader to inspire a tightly knit community of faculty, staff, and students, and to guide the PharmD program as it continues its commitment to excellence in education, developing creative and effective leaders dedicated to ethical conduct, interprofessional collaboration and service to others. The Program Director will oversee all the PharmD faculty, including foundational, clinical, and social, behavioral, and administrative sciences, and report to the Dean. Faculty rank will be based on background training and experience.

Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) was founded in 1997 as the first higher education institution in the United States dedicated exclusively to education and research related to the applied life sciences. Education and Experience:

The ideal candidate will hold an earned doctorate (PharmD and/or Ph.D.) and be eligible for pharmacy licensure in California, with clinical training and expertise in Infectious Diseases or Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders. They should have demonstrated clinical experience and hold a Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification in Infectious Diseases Pharmacy, Emergency Medicine Pharmacy, or Pharmacotherapy. The successful candidate will also bring prior administrative experience in an academic setting, a proven capacity for leadership, and a strong record of teaching, service, and scholarly achievement, as well as the ability to support the School’s educational, service, and research missions.
 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential function of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Supports PharmD admissions activities for the school.
  • Collaborates with other School of Pharmacy Program Directors to assign teaching responsibilities, ensures the quality of curricular offerings, promotes student achievement, and supports a culture of assessment and innovation.
  • Supports and participates in accreditation activities as required and in cooperation with other Associate/Assistant Deans and the Dean of the School.
  • Recruits and supervises, evaluates, and facilitates the professional development of School of Pharmacy faculty.
  • Provides collaborative leadership in developing a collegial environment.
  • Conducts regular faculty evaluations and feedback activities.
  • Develops and oversees a faculty mentoring program and oversees faculty peer-evaluation activities.
  • Partners with Dean and OSSEL on the development and maintenance of didactic and experiential education course syllabi.
  • Maintains and builds collaborative efforts with internal/external partners to enhance practice, research opportunities, and external funding.
  • Participates in teaching and clinical service, as appropriate to faculty appointment and area(s) of expertise.
  • Conducts scholarship that advances the theory and practical aspects of pharmacy practice, education, and the development of faculty/personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Hours, Classification, and Status: 

This is a Faculty, full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt position.

Typical working hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; however, teaching schedules will vary based on course assignments and the operational needs of the department or Institute.


Salary range: $145,000 - $225,000 annualized. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. Placement within the range is also contingent upon the academic rank of appointment, based on years of faculty experience, with the upper end of the range reserved for those appointed at the full professor rank.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans.  Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.  Standing for extended periods of time. Reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.  Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.  Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters.  Ability to hear within normal parameters.  Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file.  Ability to move about.  Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages. 

Ability to travel locally as needed to meet business requirements, which may include driving or other modes of transportation. Occasionally, will be required to stand for prolonged periods of time at activities/events on and off-campus.
