Job Description:

CLINICAL SPECIALIST: PEDIATRIC CRITICAL CARE FLOAT:

The Division of Pharmacy of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) is seeking a pediatric critical care clinical specialist to be part of a 36 person clinical specialist team.  Responsibilities include rounding within a variety of pediatric critical care units (NICU, PICU, CICU) on a rotational basis and providing care to your patients throughout the day.  Other responsibilities include participation in specified unit/service-related committee work, drug use evaluation, performance improvement and medical and pharmacy staff education.  Preceptorship of PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents as well as pharmacy students is required.  Involvement in scholarly activity is expected. Rotating weekend inhouse coverage of one of the critical care units (NICU, PICU, CICU) is required every 4th weekend.   

Applicants should have earned a Pharm.D. degree and completed two years of residency with one year in pediatrics including rotations in critical care. Experience in pediatric critical care is preferred.  Must be eligible for licensure in Ohio.

Cincinnati Children’s is a 705 bed tertiary care teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy.  Position offers excellent benefits, including six weeks of paid time off per year. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Patient Care - Provide comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to a specialty patient population on a daily basis, including attendance at medical team rounds, selection and dosing of medication therapies, therapeutic drug monitoring and adjustment of drug therapies. Additionally complete population based drug use evaluations and performance improvement initiatives (order sets, Epic alerts, guidelines, protocols, etc.) to improve outcome and safety for the specialty patient population. Provide 24/7 on-call coverage for pharmacy clinical services to the assigned medical team.
• Teaching and Education - Serve as a preceptor and resource to the Pharmacy Residents, Pharmacists (Pharmacist I, Pharmacist II and Pharmacist III), pharmacy interns and students. Present accredited continuing education programs to the Division of Pharmacy and assist in the development and implementation of clinical therapeutic educational opportunities of the division. Coordinate inservice education of medical and nursing staffs for assigned patient care area.
• Performance Improvement - Participate in improving organizational performance and patient safety through identification and implementation of improvement initiatives as well as participation on committees and improvement teams for their specialty patient population and the division of pharmacy.
• Research/Scholarly Activity - Actively participate in the development, implementation and ongoing coordination of research projects and/or share knowledge and information through posters, regional or national presentations, or publications.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• PharmD Degree
• Pharmacist License in the state of Ohio
• PGY1 Residency
• PGY2 Residency in pediatrics or relevant patient population specialty
