Location
In this position you will work out of the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building located at 201 W Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80202, but you will also work in the City and County Building, the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse, and the Downtown Detention Center. Office hours are 8:00AM – 5:00PM, but may be longer depending on the needs of the court and the case.
Who We Are
The Denver City’s Attorney’s Office is seeking an experienced Paralegal II to join the Municipal Operations Section. The selected candidate will be a valued member of the City Attorney’s Office Municipal Operations section and will perform intermediate level paraprofessional legal work. Based in the Wellington Webb Building, you will interact with attorneys, various city agencies, and City Council.

The Municipal Operations Section provides full service legal representation and advice to City officials, agencies and employees in the areas of general municipal law, environmental regulation and compliance, construction contracts, procurement, government contracting, tax, municipal finance, bankruptcy, real estate, land use and commercial litigation. This section offers a steady stream of clients with an incredible variety of legal needs.
What You’ll Do
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs lead work as necessary, provides work instruction, assists employees with difficult/unusual assignments, resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions.
- Calendaring of deadlines.
- Assists in setting up electronic case matter files, prepares requests and obtains necessary case documentation.
- Assists attorneys in drafting legal documents, such as contracts and real estate documents.
- Investigates the facts of cases/matters and ensures that all relevant information is considered.
- Collects, compiles, organizes, indexes, and analyzes various electronic data and documents for use in transactional matters as well as disclosure and discovery in litigation. Conducts title searches and reviews title documents.
- Drafts complaints, affidavits, various motions, initial disclosures and discovery, witness lists, exhibit lists, pattern jury instructions, and verdict forms. Assists attorney with the preparation of Case Management Orders and Final Pretrial Orders.
- Conducts legal research in order to summarize laws, court decisions, contract, legislative actions, and other legal authorities for use in assistance to the attorney in transactional and litigation matters.
- Provides immediate research and document retrieval when called upon during trial or meetings.
- Provides litigation support to attorneys at depositions, trials, and hearings.
- Proofreads for substance and format including conformance with approved standards.
- Responds to client inquiries/communications.
- Provides support functions for document control, coordinating exhibits and witnesses during transactions, trials and hearings.
- Prepares large document production, reviews for privilege, prepares privilege logs and redacts privileged information.
- Organizes, indexes and manages documentation in transactional or litigation matters and ensures they are available and easily accessible to attorneys.
- Locates witnesses, subpoenas, assists attorneys in preparing for depositions, hearings and trials.
- Prepares exhibits, assembles documents and prepares notebooks for use in transactional and litigation matters.
- Assists with electronic filing in state and federal court.
- Prepares correspondence and legal documents requiring thorough knowledge of the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Drafts contracts and contract amendments for attorney review.
- Performing other related duties as assigned or requested.

The Paralegal II should possess the following capabilities:
- Experience in a fast pace legal office setting.
- Experience in state and federal court trials.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong calendaring skills.
- Extensive experience working with Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Experience working with docketing processes and database creation/entry/maintenance.
- A self-starter and thrives in an environment that is fast-paced and ever-changing.
Preferred qualifications:
- Possession of Paralegal Certification/Degree from an accredited institution with at least two (2) years of full-time paralegal experience in a public or private office, not including internships.
- A minimum of at least four (4) years of full-time paralegal experience in a public or private law office, not including internships if no possession of Paralegal Certification/Degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

- Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
- Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of full-time paralegal experience in a public or private law office, not including internships
- Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
