Job Description:

Summary:

The Metrology Technician is an entry-level position that performs assigned calibration, preventive maintenance, equipment monitoring, and documentation activities for laboratory and facility equipment in a GMP-regulated environment. Under established procedures and appropriate guidance, the position helps maintain equipment readiness, accuracy, traceability, data integrity, and compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Performs basic routine calibrations, preventive maintenance, and equipment performance checks on assigned laboratory and facility instruments in accordance with approved procedures and training.
  • Maintains equipment readiness by completing assigned work accurately and within established schedules.
  • Assists with installation, operational, and performance qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) activities, including equipment setup, data collection, and documentation.
  • Assists with equipment setup, relocation, labeling, release, and decommissioning activities.
  • Performs assigned equipment and system monitoring activities and promptly reports alarms, abnormal conditions, or overdue work; participates in after-hours support as assigned.
  • Supports temperature mapping and air monitoring activities of laboratory spaces under direction.
  • Identifies and reports equipment that may be out of tolerance, malfunctioning, or unsuitable for use and assists with impact assessments, investigations, and approved corrective actions.
  • Maintains equipment records, status labels, logbooks, calibration documentation, and electronic records in accordance with approved procedures, CGMP requirements, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Reviews own work and assigned records for accuracy, completeness, traceability, and required approvals before submission.
  • Supports vendor scheduling, site access, equipment preparation, and collection of service documentation.
  • Uses electronic scheduling, maintenance, and equipment systems in accordance with access, audit-trail, and data-protection requirements.
  • Follows all safety, quality, data-integrity, CGMP, and company requirements
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Works effectively within established procedures and seeks guidance when work falls outside training or defined limits.
  • Communicates clearly with supervisors, colleagues, vendors, and cross-functional partners.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail, organization, dependability, and time-management skills.
  • Handles multiple assignments and meets deadlines with appropriate supervision.
  • Applies basic problem-solving skills and promptly escalates quality, safety, or equipment concerns.
  • Maintains a collaborative and service-oriented approach.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical coursework or vocational training in instrumentation, electronics, maintenance, laboratory technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of occupational safety requirements and willingness to work in laboratory and equipment areas.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn electronic scheduling, maintenance, and equipment-specific software.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to work for prolonged periods at a desk and computer and to perform work within laboratory and equipment areas.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move between offices, laboratories, and equipment locations for extended periods.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including fitted respirators, where job duties require it.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical and medical evaluation; specific immunizations may be required.
  • Reliable transportation is required because public transportation is not available at the work location.

Compensation Information:

  • The base compensation range for this role is between $23.00/hr - $25.00/hr.
