The Department of UHealth Laboratories at UHealth Sole Mia is currently seeking a full-time Medical Technologist 3 to work in North Miami.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Technologist 3 performs a variety of complex and special microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Moreover, the incumbent facilitates quality assurance and instrument maintenance.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1.Verifies identification of specimen with physicians’ orders, prepares specimens for testing, and handles all specimens in a safe and careful manner.
2.Analyzes results of testing and interprets abnormal or unusual results.
3.Researches and prepares all pertinent patient data and refers all data and testing results to pathologists for evaluation and sign-out.
4.Calibrates equipment, orders supplies and maintains inventory of relevant forms and materials.
5.Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action while supporting laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems.
6.Administers quality-control tests, according to procedure, and maintains appropriate data recording.
7.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

• Performs testing across multiple laboratory disciplines, including Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis, based on departmental and operational needs.
• Rotates among assigned laboratory testing areas and workstations based on staffing and departmental needs.
• Assists with the handling, processing, testing, and timely reporting of PTH specimens received from the Operating Room during surgical procedures, following established laboratory procedures.
• Maintains training and competency to assist with bone marrow specimen collection procedures, as needed, based on departmental and operational needs.
• Maintains training and competency in Blood Bank operations, including receiving blood products, maintaining inventory, issuing blood products, and processing returns in accordance with established Blood Bank procedures.
• Maintains competency in performing manual differentials, recognizing and identifying abnormal cells, and following established protocols for referral of appropriate specimens for pathologist review.
• Supports departmental quality, regulatory compliance, proficiency testing, validation/verification, and inspection-readiness activities as assigned.
• Assists with training and competency activities for laboratory personnel, as assigned and within the scope of the position.
• Adheres to established laboratory policies, procedures, safety requirements, and regulatory standards in the performance of all assigned duties.
• Maintains scheduling flexibility, including availability to work second shift and overtime, as needed, to support departmental and operational needs.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required

Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required

Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida Medical Technologist license required
