This is an exciting, new position based at either a key supplier or subcontractor site in the Taichung City area. There is also the potential need to travel nationally.

The Buyer will act as the principal link between the supplier’s procurement and manufacturing teams and the relevant Winbro project stakeholders.

The role will focus on coordinating, monitoring and expediting the supply of parts and assemblies required to support the production plan. Rather than undertaking routine purchase order placement, the Mechanical Project Buyer will ensure that the supplier’s procurement activities remain aligned with the project schedule, identify potential shortages and delays, support issue resolution and provide clear and timely updates to Winbro’s Senior Buyer and Project Manager.

Working closely with the supplier will be particularly important as production volumes increase beyond their previous experience. The Mechanical Project Buyer will provide practical support and oversight to help the supplier develop robust procurement, material planning and expediting processes capable of sustaining the required build rate.

Role & responsibilities:

Build effective working relationships with the supplier’s procurement, planning, engineering, quality and manufacturing teams.

Monitor the supplier’s procurement plan and ensure that components, materials and subcontracted items are available in line with the machine build schedule.

Review material requirements, shortages, order status and delivery commitments against agreed project milestones and production priorities.

Expedite critical parts and assemblies, working with the supplier’s procurement team and supply chain to prevent delays to production.

Identify potential supply risks at the earliest opportunity and coordinate appropriate recovery or mitigation actions.

Support the sourcing and qualification of alternative suppliers, materials or manufacturing routes where existing sources cannot meet quality, cost or delivery requirements.

Use strong mechanical knowledge to understand component requirements, drawings, specifications, manufacturing processes and the potential impact of proposed alternatives working alongside Winbro’s Engineering Team.

Ensure that all proposed substitutions, deviations and alternative sources are reviewed and approved through the appropriate Winbro engineering, quality and commercial processes.

Provide regular, accurate and concise status updates to Winbro’s Senior Buyer and Project Manager, highlighting shortages, risks, recovery plans and decisions required.

Maintain clear action, shortage and risk registers, ensuring that owners and completion dates are agreed and followed through.

Facilitate effective communication between English- and Mandarin-speaking stakeholders, ensuring that requirements, actions and concerns are clearly understood by all parties.

Participate in production, procurement and project review meetings and communicate actions to the appropriate Winbro and supplier personnel.

Verify progress through regular engagement with the supplier’s procurement team, production areas and relevant sub-suppliers rather than relying solely on reported information.

Promote a proactive approach to problem-solving, expediting and supply chain risk management.

Support continuous improvement activities relating to procurement planning, supplier performance, material flow and machine build readiness.

Identify and develop cost-reduction opportunities, including supplier cost-down initiatives, alternative sourcing, component redesign, material substitution and changes to manufacturing or assembly methods, working with Engineering, Quality and other stakeholders to ensure that proposals are technically validated and implemented without compromising quality, performance or delivery.

Requirements

Experience in project buying, procurement, supply chain coordination, production planning or supplier management within an engineering or manufacturing environment.

Strong mechanical engineering knowledge and the ability to understand technical drawings, specifications, bills of materials and manufacturing processes.

Minimum 3 years’ experience of expediting components and resolving material shortages within a time-critical production or project environment.

Professional working fluency in both Mandarin and English, including the ability to communicate technical and commercial information clearly.
