Job Summary

The Managing Director, Sustainability & Corporate Citizenship provides enterprise leadership for AEP's sustainability strategy, disclosure governance, stakeholder engagement, and philanthropic initiatives. The role is responsible for advancing AEP's reputation, strengthening stakeholder trust, supporting access to capital, and ensuring transparency through high-quality sustainability disclosures and strategic community investments.
This leader will oversee the AEP Foundation, corporate charitable giving programs, volunteerism, sustainability reporting, ESG investor engagement, disclosure governance, and related data management processes. The position serves as a key advisor to executive leadership and the Board of Directors on sustainability and emerging stakeholder expectations.
The Managing Director works across operating companies, Investor Relations, Finance, Legal, Corporate Communications, Regulatory Affairs, and External Affairs to ensure alignment between AEP's business strategy, sustainability priorities, and philanthropic initiatives.

Job Description

Sustainability Strategy, Governance & Disclosure

• Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of AEP's enterprise sustainability strategy and associated governance framework.
• Own AEP's sustainability disclosure program, including the annual AEP Impact Report and related external sustainability reporting.
• Establish and maintain enterprise processes, controls, technology platforms, and governance structures supporting sustainability and non-financial disclosures.
• Lead the collection, validation, management, and governance of sustainability-related data and metrics across the enterprise.
• Ensure data integrity, transparency, consistency, audit readiness, and compliance with applicable disclosure requirements and evolving reporting standards.
• Monitor emerging sustainability regulations, disclosure frameworks, investor expectations, and industry best practices, recommending appropriate actions for AEP.
• Facilitate enterprise sustainability governance processes and coordinate cross-functional leadership engagement.
• Support AEP's ESG and sustainability-focused investor engagement.
• Serve as subject matter expert when engaging with ESG investors, analysts, ratings organizations, industry groups, and other sustainability-focused stakeholders.

• Partner with Investor Relations to proactively communicate AEP's sustainability strategy, performance, governance practices, and risk management approach.
• Coordinate responses to sustainability-related investor inquiries, shareholder proposals, and stakeholder requests.
• Monitor sustainability ratings, rankings, assessments, and benchmarking efforts while developing strategies to strengthen AEP's external sustainability profile.
• Support efforts that strengthen investor confidence, mitigate reputational risk, and promote affordable access to capital.
• Prepare and deliver periodic sustainability updates to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
• Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership regarding sustainability-related business, reputational, regulatory, and stakeholder issues.

Corporate Citizenship:  AEP Foundation & Corporate Giving

• Provide executive leadership and oversight for the AEP Foundation and enterprise-wide corporate charitable giving programs.
• Develop and implement a strategic philanthropic investment framework aligned with AEP's business objectives, community priorities, and corporate values.
• Oversee grantmaking strategy, funding priorities, charitable contribution programs, scholarship initiatives, and related community investment activities.
• Establish and maintain governance, policies, controls, technology platforms, and enterprise processes supporting AEP Foundation operations and charitable giving activities.
• Ensure consistent administration, compliance, transparency, reporting, and stewardship of philanthropic investments across the company.
• Partner with operating companies and business units to maximize community impact and ensure alignment of local giving strategies with enterprise objectives.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Public Policy, Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, Communications, Corporate Responsibility, Nonprofit Management, or related field.

Experience

• Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in sustainability, ESG, investor relations, corporate affairs, public policy, or related areas.
• Demonstrated experience leading external reporting, disclosure management, governance programs, or enterprise reporting initiatives.
• Experience working with executive leadership teams and Boards of Directors.

Compensation Range:

$188,524.00 - $245,080.00
