A Brief Overview

Manages Patient Access functions for assigned Avera acute entity/entities, ensuring consistent registration and financial clearance practices across sites. Reviews, standardizes, and optimizes departmental procedures, and workflows to ensure consistent patient access practices to improve registration quality, compliance, patient experience, and front-end revenue integrity. Directs training, competency, and quality monitoring for Patient Access processes to achieve established benchmarks, maximize appropriate point-of-service collections, and reduce avoidable denials. Partners with clinical and revenue cycle stakeholders to diagnose issues, align decision points, and implement sustainable solutions that deliver consistent results across varied care settings.

What you will do

• Coordinates all patient access functions including financial clearance, prearrival collections, no surprise billing, uninsured/underinsured processes, and pre arrival financial assistance practices.
• Assist in the management of the Patient Access department budgets by providing operational input and supporting data within established budget parameters to help accomplish departmental and system objectives. Identifies operational resource needs (e.g., printers, headsets, PCs) and compiles registration volume by service line to inform budget planning.
• Interacts with Revenue Cycle Health Informatics and IT to consistently optimize, evaluate, modify and maintain software systems for registration, eligibility, and financial clearance to provide peak performance and reporting.
• Monitors and reviews Patient Access performance indicators, including registration accuracy metrics, point-of-service (POS) collections, and preventable denials. Maintains routine tracking and trend awareness of these measures and submits regular performance updates to direct leader to support operational decision-making and improvement efforts.
• Integrates the patient access department into the primary functions of the hospitals overall systems for delivering care, as evidenced by participation in teams or groups focused on improving the patient experience.
• Interfaces and collaborates with other departments including Social Work, Case Management, Compliance, as well as all Avera Revenue Cycle Departments to ensure compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
• Oversees the accuracy and quality of work; accountable to monitor and recommend workflow process modification to ensure goals are met for both customer service and reimbursement requirements.
• Work close with the Regional Directors, Health Informatics, clinical and financial leadership.
• Communication transparency from Director and Executive Leadership throughout the team, proactively engages feedback, and provides feedback to leadership.
• Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• 1-3 years Experience in the hospital revenue cycle process.
• Knowledge of patient access and front-end revenue cycle coordination. Experience developing training content.

Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• Bachelor's Business, Health Information Management, Nursing or related field
