Join our team and make a positive impact on the lives of others! We are looking for a Manager of Authorizations for our Finance team.

This is a remote position that requires some travel to our New York location in New Hyde Park, NY. 

Department & Position Overview:

  • The Manager of Authorizations leads the Authorizations function within Finance and is responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient authorization processes that support service delivery, revenue cycle operations, and cross-functional business needs. 
  • This role manages the Authorizations Team Lead and 8 team members, providing day-to-day leadership, coaching, performance oversight, and accountability to ensure the team meets operational expectations, service-level goals, and quality standards. 
  • The Manager of Authorizations also helps strengthen the function by strengthening workflows, improving processes, establishing metrics, supporting change management, and identifying practical opportunities for automation, efficiency, and scalable team practices. 

Responsibilities & Scope: 

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Authorizations function, serving as the primary escalation point for complex authorization issues, payer-related barriers, workflow delays, and cross-functional concerns that may impact timely service delivery. 
  • Leads the continued maturity of the Authorizations function by evaluating current processes, identifying operational gaps, and building scalable workflows, tools, documentation, and team practices that support consistency, accountability, and efficiency. 
  • Drives process improvement and change management initiatives, including defining new workflows, supporting adoption of system or automation enhancements, and ensuring changes are clearly communicated, documented, and reinforced. 
  • Partners with Finance, Operations, Compliance, Technology, and other internal stakeholders to resolve recurring barriers, clarify ownership, align priorities, and improve authorization-related workflows. 
  • Monitors team performance, productivity reporting, service-level expectations, and key operational metrics; uses data to identify trends, prioritize improvements, and inform staffing, workflow, and process decisions. 
  • Builds a culture of accountability by establishing clear expectations, tracking progress against measurable goals, addressing performance gaps, and ensuring team members understand how their work contributes to department outcomes. 
  • Leads, coaches, and develops the Authorizations Team Lead and employees through regular communication, performance feedback, training, and support; reinforces ownership, problem solving, and effective people management practices within the team. 
  • Identifies opportunities to reduce manual work, improve turnaround time, increase accuracy, and create more efficient processes through reporting, technology enhancements, documentation, and automation where appropriate. 
  • Supports hiring, onboarding, training, employee documentation, and performance management processes to ensure the team is prepared to meet role expectations, department standards, and applicable compliance requirements. 

 

Ideal Candidate Will Possess: 

  • 3+ years of previous managerial experience, preferably leading an operational, finance, revenue cycle, authorization, or process-driven team.  
  • Proven leadership experience with a history of coaching employees, setting expectations, building accountability, and managing performance.  
  • Strong MS Excel and data analysis skills, with the ability to manipulate data, identify trends, and use reporting to tell a clear operational story.  
  • Experience coordinating projects or process improvement initiatives, including defining workflows, tracking progress, aligning stakeholders, and helping teams adopt new ways of working.  
  • Comfort using systems, reporting tools, and technology to improve team workflows, reduce manual work, and increase efficiency.  
  • Strong ownership, follow-through, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner cross-functionally and drive work forward through others. 

Nice-to-Haves: 

  • Experience leveraging advanced Excel functions, such as VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and data validation.  
  • Familiarity with SQL, Power BI, Power Automate, Microsoft Forms, or other reporting, workflow, or automation tools.  
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools or automation concepts to improve documentation, reporting, workflow management, or operational efficiency.  
  • Insurance authorizations, revenue cycle, healthcare operations, or payer-related experience. Experience supporting system implementations, workflow redesigns, or cross-functional process improvement projects.

  • Strong leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to establish clear expectations, build accountability, develop employees and team leads, and manage performance effectively. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change, support adoption of new processes, and guide teams through evolving business priorities and operational improvements. 
  • Process-oriented mindset with the ability to evaluate workflows, identify inefficiencies, and implement practical solutions that improve productivity, quality, and service delivery. 
  • Strong project coordination and execution skills, including the ability to organize workstreams, align stakeholders, define priorities, and drive initiatives to completion. 
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and resolve complex operational challenges. 
  • Effective cross-functional partnership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across Finance, Operations, Compliance, Technology, and other business functions. 
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including the ability to influence outcomes, gain buy-in, and communicate effectively with employees, leaders, and business partners. 
  • Comfort using technology, reporting tools, automation concepts, and AI-enabled resources to improve team efficiency, reduce manual work, and support operational excellence. 
  • Highly organized and self-directed, with strong time management, prioritization, ownership, and follow-through skills in a fast-paced environment.

At FreedomCare, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides our employees with the opportunity to professionally grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $70,000 and $80,000 per year at the commencement of your first year of employment. Compensation decisions are dependent upon a variety of factors which may include, but are not limited to: skill set, years of relevant experience, education, location, and licensure/certifications.
