Job Summary
• This role is responsible for overseeing a team of machine learning engineers and data scientists, guiding the development of machine learning, Generative AI, and Edge AI projects, and aligning them with business goals. The role communicates project progress, challenges, and outcomes to stakeholders and senior management. The role provides technical guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering their professional growth. The role also supports the adoption and implementation of emerging AI technologies, including OpenAI-based solutions, large language models, AI agents, and AI-enabled transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities
• Provides direct and ongoing leadership for a team of individual contributors that design, deploy, maintain, and monitor machine learning, generative AI, and Edge AI based models, applications, and systems.
• Collaborates with business stakeholders to understand goals and define machine learning and generative AI project requirements.
• Oversees end-to-end machine learning and Generative AI solution development, from data collection and preprocessing to development, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
• Drives the selection and application of appropriate machine learning algorithms, generative AI models, architectures, and techniques.
• Guides the implementation of solutions leveraging large language models, OpenAI and Azure OpenAI technologies, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, multimodal AI, and related technologies where applicable.
• Supports the development and deployment of AI capabilities across cloud, hybrid, and edge environments, considering performance, latency, privacy, security, and hardware constraints.
• Drives adoption of appropriate AI/ML engineering practices, including MLOps/LLMOps, model evaluation, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Manages headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple ongoing projects, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with program and organizational roadmaps.
• Communicates project status and escalates issues to direct managers, program managers, and internal and external development partners.
• Manages relationships with outsourced partners and suppliers, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs; ensures that team members are effectively communicating and collaborating with outsourced resources.
• Regularly evaluates and considers new applications, use cases, technologies, and proofs of concept to keep the organization at the forefront of AI and ML technology, including developments in Generative AI, Edge AI, and AI agents.
• Identifies opportunities to transition successful AI proofs of concept into scalable production solutions and reusable capabilities.
• Partners with business and technical stakeholders to identify opportunities for AI-enabled transformation, automation, and productivity improvements.
• Ensures AI solutions are developed in alignment with applicable security, privacy, responsible AI, data governance, and enterprise architecture requirements.
• Provides people-care management for assigned team members, including hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development.
• Ensures that proper knowledge and career development tools are in place to support ongoing team member and process development.

Education & Experience Recommended
• Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
• Typically has 7-10 years of job-related experience or 5-7 years of management experience, preferably in computer programming languages, machine learning, generative AI, algorithms, statistical methods, software engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with generative AI, large language models, cloud AI platforms, and/or AI deployment in edge or resource-constrained environments is preferred.
