About the role:

As a Legal Intern on our Legal Operations team, you will sit exactly where paralegal work meets project management. That blend is what Legal Ops is: you will help prepare, review, and organize legal documents, and you will also keep the team's matters, deadlines, and trackers moving forward. You will work closely with our US Legal Team and with partners across Compliance, Finance, and Operations, learning first-hand how an in-house legal function runs inside a fast-growing, publicly traded fintech.

We are seeking a talented and motivated Legal Intern who is best in class with a high IQ plus a high EQ. This role presents an exciting opportunity to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment within a rapidly growing team, with abundant prospects for career advancement.

This is a paid, fully remote internship. No prior full-time legal experience is required; curiosity, ownership, and organization matter more.

What You'll Do:

  • Legal support (the paralegal side)

    • Support the US Legal Team with day-to-day support requests.
    • Review and analyze documents: review incoming liens, notices, and agreements to assess their validity, accuracy, and compliance with legal requirements, escalating anything unusual.
    • Prepare and file documents: draft lien documents, templates, and standard forms accurately and efficiently, under the supervision of counsel or a senior paralegal, and always within deadline.
    • Maintain the legal database: update and maintain electronic records of liens, contracts, and corporate documentation, filing and organizing everything for easy retrieval.
    • Assist with compliance audits: support internal and external audits by pulling documentation and information related to lien processing and other legal activities.
    • Stay informed on US legal requirements: keep up to date on relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices, and flag anything that should change how we work.

Legal operations (the project management side)

    • Own trackers and status reporting: maintain trackers for legal matters, contract requests, and filings, and deliver regular, clear status updates to the team.
    • Track deadlines and follow-ups: monitor the status of filed liens and open items, and proactively chase outstanding pieces before they become urgent.
    • Coordinate across teams: collaborate with in-house and external counsel, paralegals, and operations staff to gather the documentation and information each matter needs, and to unblock what is stuck.
    • Communicate with stakeholders: liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, vendors, and legal representatives, to resolve issues and ensure timely processing.
    • Document and improve processes: write and maintain simple playbooks, checklists, and templates so repeatable legal work runs the same way every time.
    • Support legal tooling: help keep legal tools, folders, and workflows organized, and suggest small improvements that save the team time.

What We Look For:

  • Legal foundation: currently pursuing, or recently completed, a degree in Law, Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related field. Previous internship or work experience supporting US law firms or US legal teams is welcome but not required.
  • English proficiency: advanced written and spoken English, since you will work daily with the US Legal Team and with external stakeholders in the United States.
  • Attention to detail: ability to meticulously review and analyze legal documents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Organizational and project management skills: ability to manage multiple requests at once, prioritize your workload, and keep trackers and deadlines current without being reminded.
  • Communication skills: excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Team player: ability to work collaboratively, supporting colleagues and contributing to departmental goals.
  • Problem-solving skills: capacity to identify issues, propose solutions, and make decisions independently when necessary.
  • Adaptability: flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and procedures in a dynamic work environment.
  • Confidentiality: understanding of the sensitive nature of legal information and commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Computer proficiency: proficiency in Google Workspace and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Claude or equivalent large language model tools is required; candidates must be comfortable leveraging AI to enhance productivity, research, and communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to US legal concepts and procedures.
  • Understanding of Article 9 of the US Uniform Commercial Code ("UCC") and/or secured transactions.
  • Experience with legal software or databases, or with project management tools such as Jira, Asana, Notion, or similar.
  • Experience building and maintaining trackers, dashboards, or project plans.
  • Interest in fintech, payments, or consumer lending.

About You:

  • You have relentlessly high standards - many people may think your standards are unreasonably high. You are continually raising the bar and driving those around you to deliver great results. You make sure that defects do not get sent down the line and that problems are fixed so they stay fixed.
  • You’re not bound by convention - your success—and much of the fun—lies in developing new ways to do things
  • You need action - speed matters in business. Many decisions and actions are reversible and do not need extensive study. We value calculated risk-taking.
  • You earn trust - you listen attentively, speak candidly, and treat others respectfully.
  • You have backbone; disagree, then commit - you can respectfully challenge decisions when you disagree, even when doing so is uncomfortable or exhausting. You have conviction and are tenacious. You do not compromise for the sake of social cohesion. Once a decision is determined, you commit wholly.
  • You deliver results - you focus on the key inputs and deliver them with the right quality and in a timely fashion. Despite setbacks, you rise to the occasion and never settle.
