Leads a team of professionals in the development, implementation and evaluation of orientation and continuing educational and professional development programs. Takes a leadership role in educational initiatives to ensure quality patient care and customer satisfaction. Acts as a resource and liaison to the VUMC community by taking a leadership role on hospital wide committees or task forces. Performs a range of nursing, clinical, consultative, educational, and research activities within established area of expertise..

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises the individuals of the team including all aspects of human resource functions relevant to the role, including overseeing and reviewing individual and team performance, supporting professional development of team members and recruiting/retention (hiring & firing) to operationalize the work of the department.
- Creates processes to analyze learning outcomes, synthesizes evaluation data to determine value of program and disseminate evaluation results.
- Conducts environmental scanning to identify required changes, creates change strategies collectively, leads implementation change strategies.
- Demonstrates expert practice through interprofessional collaboration and development of activities to recognize the role of the NPD practitioner. Promotes the value of NPD practice through publications, presentations and scholarly work.
- Demonstrates leadership by determining the value of NPD through demonstrating return on investment, improved quality of care and patient outcomes. Creates project plans and oversees implementation.
- Synthesize and appraise best available evidence to recommend practice changes. Recommends/implements research/QI initiatives that align with organizational goals. Disseminates research/QI/EBP findings through presentations/publications.
- Assesses learning environments to determine sustainability to organization and target audience. Creates processes to support smooth transitions to practice and between practice settings.

- Educational Assessment (Advanced): Analyzes data and forecasts trends affecting educational needs. Differentiates educational needs from system issues.
- Planning (Advanced): Appropriately matches equipment and capital resources to task demands. Achieves results within budget. Expertly handles multiple assignments simultaneously and supports novice – intermediate NES as needed. Transforms project during lifecycle evolution, if needed. Embraces changes to assignments and maintains a high level of performance. Validates problems and issues are resolved or modifies approach to resolve problem or issue.
- Team Education (Advanced): Expert knowledge, training, and experience and mentors novice – intermediate NES to deliver healthcare team education services. Critical thinker and problem solver and mentor to others. Expert in training and educating by example, technical instruction, and leadership.
- Nurse Education Training & Development (Advanced): Demonstrates ability to develop, deliver, and lead a program in its entirety. Gives clear, concise instructions. Demonstrates the ability to expertly deal with adversity and disruption.
- Evaluation (Advanced): Evaluates programs and educational initiatives in terms of impact on learner, patient, and organization. Monitors validity and reliability of evaluation tools. Uses program evaluations and other metrics to guide the restructuring and planning for future programs and learning opportunities. Follows up with executive and administrative leaders to determine if business and/or operational goals are met.
