The role

We are looking for a Junior Java Software Developer to join Fasanara Digital and contribute to systems supporting our 24/7 trading activity, with guidance from experienced engineers.

The role will focus on contributing to the development and maintenance of our multi-venue collateral management platform, alongside new reference data and accounting infrastructure supporting both digital assets and traditional financial markets.

This is a hands-on engineering role within a small, high-performing team, with opportunities to learn from experienced colleagues. You will work on well-defined tasks across both new development and existing production systems, helping to build new functionality and maintain and improve established code. We are looking for a self-starter who takes initiative, follows through on tasks, and asks for guidance when needed.

Experience in financial services, trading, banking, or digital assets is welcome but not required. We are interested in candidates with a solid foundation in Java development and a willingness to learn about our systems and markets.

Responsibilities

• Help develop, maintain, and enhance our multi-venue collateral management system supporting 24/7 trading activity, with guidance from experienced engineers.
• Contribute to improvements in distributed, real-time, and event-driven systems, learning how to support their reliability and availability.
• Help build and maintain integrations with trading venues to source account, position, collateral, and other operational data.
• Assist with implementing reference data frameworks and accounting pipelines supporting both traditional financial instruments and digital assets.
• Develop primarily in Java and Kotlin, following established patterns and participating in code reviews and technical discussions.
• Maintain, debug, and improve existing production code alongside developing new functionality, with support and code review from the team.
• Take initiative on well-defined tasks, follow through on agreed work, and raise questions or blockers promptly.
• Work closely with experienced engineers to understand business requirements and contribute to practical technical solutions.
• Use modern AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and software quality.

Requirements

Technical Requirements 

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Practical experience developing in Java or Kotlin in a professional environment.
• Functional understanding of distributed systems concepts and an interest in developing practical experience.
• Interest in learning about real-time, event-driven, and high-availability systems; prior exposure is helpful but not required.
• Sound understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, testing, and version control.
• Experience debugging and improving existing code and developing new functionality, with guidance when needed.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• A self-starter who takes initiative, works independently on well-defined tasks, and seeks support when needed.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Desired Skills

• Commercial Kotlin experience.
• Previous experience within financial services, trading, banking, hedge funds, or fintech.
• Experience within cryptocurrency or digital assets.
• Knowledge of crypto exchanges, trading venues, protocols, or market infrastructure.
• Experience developing collateral, position, accounting, market data, or reference data systems.
• Experience with Python.
• Experience with Apache, Kafka or other event streaming technologies.
• Experience using AI-assisted software development tools.
• Understanding of traditional financial instruments and financial market infrastructure.
