In this role you will support the Resident Engineer in all technical, administrative, and operational aspects related to the deployment, integration, testing, commissioning, and acceptance of the Cooperative Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS) solution. The role includes overseeing the implementation of C-V2X infrastructure, roadside units (RSUs), onboard units (OBUs), connected vehicle applications, network interfaces, and integration with the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS). The position requires reviewing functional and detailed system design submissions, monitoring compliance with applicable C-ITS standards and specifications, coordinating interfaces with telecommunications providers, ATMS developers, and other contractors, witnessing testing activities, and ensuring successful delivery of all C-ITS services and use cases in accordance with the Contract requirements. Based on the project requirements, the role requires expertise in C-V2X technologies, 3GPP standards, wireless communications, and intelligent transportation systems.
Some of the principal responsibilities the C-ITS Engineer is required to perform are:
Provide technical supervision of C-ITS/C-V2X system deployment, integration, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
Review and recommend approval of Functional System Design Documents (FSDD), Interface Control Documents (ICD), use case definitions, communications architecture, C-ITS service specifications, and system integration submissions.
Review and approve C-ITS integration, interoperability, validation, and system test plans, including FAT, SAT, UAT, end-to-end testing, coverage testing, performance testing, cybersecurity testing, and field operational testing.
Ensure the Contractor's compliance with the Contract Documents, approved standards, interoperability requirements, and accepted C-ITS implementation methodologies.
Review and approve technical submittals related to Roadside Units (RSUs), Onboard Units (OBUs), C-V2X communications infrastructure, edge computing platforms, security credential management systems, and telecommunications interfaces.
Monitor implementation of C-ITS services and applications, including vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), infrastructure-to-vehicle (I2V), road safety, traffic efficiency, traveler information, work zone management, and connected corridor applications.
Coordinate integration activities between the C-ITS platform, ATMS, field ITS devices, telecommunications networks, cloud platforms, and external stakeholder systems.
Verify compliance with applicable standards and specifications, including C-Roads, ETSI, SAE, IEEE, ISO, CEN, and 3GPP standards as applicable to the project.
Witness installation, configuration, calibration, and testing of RSUs, OBU platforms, edge devices, and communications equipment.
Support the Resident Engineer in evaluating Variation Orders, Change Orders, software enhancements, and modifications affecting C-ITS functionality and system integration.
Review system logs, test results, interoperability reports, issue registers, and corrective action plans throughout implementation and testing phases.
Attend all C-ITS related meetings and prepare technical comments, recommendations, and meeting records.
Review correspondence and prepare responses for signature.
Maintain status logs for deployment, integration, testing, certification, and issue resolution activities.
Provide punch lists and final acceptance recommendations for C-ITS deliverables and services.
Review and approve as-built documentation, operation manuals, maintenance manuals, configuration records, and final system handover documentation.
