Are you ready to join the Information Technology (IT) Department and play a pivotal role in strengthening technology risk management at the Reserve Bank of Australia?

 

We are seeking a Technology Risk Advisor to partner with IT leaders across the Bank to strengthen risk-informed decision-making, uplift risk culture and enhance the management of technology risks across the IT Department. As a trusted advisor, you will help embed effective risk management practices while enabling the successful delivery of technology outcomes.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Technology Risk Advisory, you will support the management of material technology risks in areas including infrastructure, applications, service delivery, transformation and change, third-party services, technology governance and operational resilience. You will also help the IT Department respond effectively to an evolving technology risk landscape.

 

The position involves substantial engagement with leaders and teams across the IT Department, as well as stakeholders in other areas of the Bank, including Enterprise Risk and Compliance.

 

About the role

  • Build trusted relationships with technology leaders and teams to support risk-informed decision-making and promote the proactive management of technology risks.

  • Provide subject matter expertise, coaching, guidance and pragmatic risk advice to support the uplift and continuous improvement of technology risk management practices across the IT Department.

  • Partner with IT stakeholders to identify, assess and manage technology risks that could affect the achievement of business and technology objectives.

  • Support the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of the IT Department risk profile by identifying material, emerging and interconnected technology risks, evaluating changes in exposure and engaging with relevant risk and control owners.

  • Partner with risk and control owners to design, assess and improve controls that effectively manage material technology risks.

  • Support business operations and risk management practices to align with the RBA’s frameworks, policies, standards, risk strategy, regulatory obligations and risk appetite.

  • Support the preparation of insightful risk reporting, analysis and management information to improve visibility of material technology risks and inform decisions by management and governance forums.

  • Provide risk advice to support the assessment, root cause analysis and remediation of technology-related operational risk incidents.

  • Support stakeholders to develop credible and sustainable action plans that address identified gaps in the IT Department’s control environment.

  • Constructively challenge and support stakeholders to ensure the timely and effective remediation of identified risk and control deficiencies.

  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of technology risk management frameworks, methodologies, reporting and governance practices.

  • Facilitate the identification, assessment, documentation and ongoing management of technology risks, controls, issues, incidents and actions within the Risk Management System.

  • Monitor the quality and integrity of risk information held within the Risk Management System and support the continuous improvement of risk data management practices.

About you

  • At least five years’ experience in a Line 1 or Line 2 operational or technology risk and compliance role, or a Line 3 internal audit role, preferably within banking or financial services.

  • Strong understanding of technology risk management principles, technology controls, governance practices and relevant industry frameworks.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues, apply sound judgement and provide pragmatic, solutions-focused risk advice.

  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes with stakeholders at all levels, including effective collaboration across Line 1, Line 2 and Line 3 functions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly present risk insights and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence, advise and coach stakeholders in the effective management of technology risks and controls.

  • Demonstrated experience facilitating risk assessments, workshops and stakeholder discussions to identify material risks, evaluate controls and agree practical risk treatment actions.

  • Experience supporting the implementation and ongoing application of enterprise-wide risk and compliance management frameworks, policies and standards.

  • Experience contributing to the design, implementation and continuous improvement of risk and compliance frameworks, methodologies, processes, coaching or training.

  • Experience uplifting operational resilience or implementing operational risk management standards within a regulated or systemically important organisation is highly desirable. Experience working with relevant APRA prudential standards will be well regarded.

  • Understanding of technology project, transformation and change risks, including the effective transition of residual risks, controls, actions and accountabilities into business-as-usual operations.

  • Understanding of technology-related incident management, root cause analysis and remediation processes.

  • Experience using governance, risk and compliance platforms to manage technology risks, controls, issues, incidents and related actions.

  • Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and escalate significant matters appropriately.

  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving and issue resolution skills.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in technology, risk, business, economics, finance, compliance or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
