GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the close supervision of the Install Manager or Lead, the Sign Installation Journeyman installs new signs and services existing signs safely, efficiently, and within established budgets and timelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review blueprints, work orders, and installation specifications and prepare required materials and supplies.
• Transport, prepare, load, unload, and erect signs and related equipment.
• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on existing signs.
• Perform electrical installation and service work in accordance with applicable codes and company procedures.
• Install, troubleshoot, and service LED lighting and signaling systems.
• Operate power tools, hand tools, forklifts, cranes, and other equipment as required.
• Complete required paperwork and documentation for installation and service work.
• Travel to customer and field locations as required.
• Work safely and comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
• Obtain completed work sign-off from customers when required.
• Maintain professional and courteous communication with customers and coworkers.
• Perform work at heights, on ladders, lifts, and other elevated work platforms as required.
• Work overtime, including evenings and weekends, as required to meet customer, project, and business needs.
• Travel to out-of-town locations and remain away from the normal work location as required. Overnight travel may be required.
• Perform other duties related to sign installation and service as assigned.

MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Clean, organize, stock, and maintain vehicles, tools, equipment, and work areas.
• Assist other installation and service personnel as needed.
• Perform other functions and duties as necessary or assigned.

NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS

• Interacts directly with customers and customer representatives.
• Works with installation helpers, apprentices, technicians, supervisors, and leads.
• Interacts with engineers, production personnel, account executives, and employees from other departments.
• Maintains professional communication with internal and external contacts.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Five or more years of relevant construction, sign installation, service, electrical, or related experience required.
• Experience with welding, electrical installation, LED lighting and signaling systems, heavy equipment, cranes, forklifts, power tools, and reading blueprints and work orders are required.
• Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of electrical installation practices and applicable National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
• Knowledge of LED lighting systems and signaling systems, including installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, work orders, installation instructions, and safety procedures.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple work activities while meeting critical deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers, coworkers, supervisors, and other personnel.
• Basic computer and technology skills.
• Excellent basic math skills.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Strong work ethic with an enthusiastic and positive attitude.
• High level of integrity and professionalism.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Maintain regular and timely attendance.
• Valid Class B CDL License required.
• Current welding certifications are required. (3G, 4G)
• Current crane operation certification required. (NCCCO)
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and participate in any drug and alcohol testing required by company policy and applicable law.

WORK SCHEDULE & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be willing and able to work overtime when required.
• Must be willing and able to work weekends, including occasional Saturdays and Sundays, when business or project requirements dictate.
• Must be willing and able to travel to out-of-town and remote job sites as required.
• Overnight travel may be required depending on project requirements.
• Work schedules may vary based on customer needs, project deadlines, weather, and operational requirements.

Work is generally performed in a shop environment, outdoor job-site environment, and while traveling or driving to various field locations.

• Sit or stand for extended periods of time.

• Crawl, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, push, pull, grasp, and use hands and arms repetitively.
• Lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 60 pounds.
• Work at heights and in varying outdoor weather conditions.
• Operate heavy equipment, forklifts, cranes, lifts, and other machinery.
• Use hand tools and power tools.
• Maintain adequate vision and depth perception to safely perform installation and service work.
• Work safely around moving equipment, vehicles, electrical systems, and other job-site hazards.
• Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely perform the essential functions of the position.
• Must be able to safely utilize job-required safety equipment, including personal fall-arrest systems, ladders, and aerial bucket lifts, which have combined weight capacities.
• Climbing Requirements: Ability to climb ladders up to 100 feet, work at elevated heights, and maneuver into tight, confined spaces inside signage structures.
• Lifting & Tool Load: Ability to carry, handle, and maneuver up to 75 lbs. of installation equipment while elevated.
