Temporary 06-month position
As a Barreau du Québec immigration law intern at Desjardins, you will help lawyers and immigration consultants manage various immigration requests for employees and potential candidates. You will learn the basics of Canadian immigration law at both the provincial and federal levels and participate in legal monitoring. You’ll also be called on to interact with various players and provide managers and employees with support regarding immigration matters. More specifically, you will be required to :
- Handle all steps of the immigration process, with oversight from the internship supervisor.
- Work directly with managers and employees to collect all necessary documents and information.
- Prepare and submit official documents and forms to government authorities to obtain or renew work permits.
- Ensure all immigration files are compliant and monitor the status of employees with work permits.
- Support managers and employees with immigration files before the employee’s hiring date and throughout the duration of their employment.
- Help respond to government audits by consolidating required information and providing all necessary documentation on time.
- Research immigration law topics to answer complex questions.
What you bring to the table
- Bachelor's degree in Law
- Internship candidates must have successfully completed Phases 1 and 2 of the École du Barreau du Québec to be eligible for the articling term
- This internship is officially recognized by the Barreau du Québec and must be required for the candidate’s admission to the Roll of the Order
- Strong communication skills in both French and English, both oral and written due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with english-speaking partners, members and/or clients
