The HVAC Mechanical Supervisor provides leadership and technical oversight for the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of Florida Tech's HVAC, mechanical, and Building Automation Systems. The position supervises skilled HVAC and controls personnel while ensuring reliable building conditions, preventive maintenance, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and responsive customer service.

The Supervisor also provides mechanical and controls expertise for construction, renovations, deferred maintenance, and capital renewal projects. The position works closely with Facilities leadership, engineers, contractors, other trades, and campus departments and serves as emergency-required personnel during major equipment failures, hurricanes, and other campus emergencies.

This individual will oversee a staff of skilled trades personnel and student workers and will report to the Director of Maintenance. Florida Institute of Technology is a growing, top-ranked university with over 2,000,000 square feet of facilities to maintain.

Normal Working Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, and must be available for after-hour call-backs on a 24/7 basis. This supervisory position reports to the Director of Maintenance.

Oversee daily operation and performance of campus HVAC, mechanical, and Building Automation Systems. Order parts or full units and ensure systems provide reliable temperature, humidity, ventilation, and environmental conditions while minimizing disruptions to University operations.

Direct, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assigned HVAC and controls personnel. Remove obstacles for staff, establish priorities, assign work, monitor performance, provide technical guidance, and promote employee development, accountability, and safe work practices.

Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs for chillers, air handling units, pumps, controls, and related mechanical equipment. Monitor equipment condition and recurring failures to improve reliability, extend equipment life, and reduce emergency repairs.

Oversee BAS programming, scheduling, alarms, trending, sequences of operation, integration, and troubleshooting. Use system data and operational knowledge to improve comfort, equipment performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.

Provide HVAC, mechanical, and controls expertise for new construction, renovations, and capital projects. Review designs and equipment selections and coordinate with engineers, contractors, project managers, and Facilities staff through construction, commissioning, turnover, and warranty.

Prioritize and coordinate HVAC and BAS corrective maintenance, and ensure work is completed and appropriately documented. Communicate significant problems, outages, repair schedules, and service impacts to Facilities leadership and campus customers.

Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption and operating costs through BAS programming, equipment optimization, scheduling, and mechanical improvements. Support indoor air quality investigations and balance energy conservation with comfort and operational requirements.

Assist with operating budgets, deferred maintenance, capital renewal planning, cost estimates, equipment replacement, and scopes of work. Support procurement and contractor selection while promoting cost-conscious use of University resources.

Ensure work complies with University policies, safety requirements, applicable codes, and established procedures. Serve as emergency-required personnel and provide operational support during hurricanes, utility interruptions, major equipment failures, and other emergencies.

Maintain necessary equipment, system, maintenance, and technical documentation, and coordinate activities with other Facilities teams. Perform additional duties as assigned in support of Facilities Operations and the University.

Annual Security & Fire Safety Report

The federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) requires colleges and universities, both public and private, participating in federal student aid programs to disclose campus safety information, and imposes certain basic requirements for handling incidents of sexual violence and emergency situations.

Florida Tech’s 2025 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Florida Tech; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus.

The numbers provided include crime statistics that were reported to local law enforcement agencies, campus security and other Campus Security Authorities.
