Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic
Location: Chesterfield, VA
Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Shift: 1st Shift, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM
Starting Pay: $24.00/hour, with higher pay available depending on experience
Travel: Required as needed; qualifying travel includes per diem and overtime
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, cranes, trailers, and other motorized equipment. Travel to other locations or field assignments may be required for repairs and maintenance.
Responsibilities
Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment.
Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and respond to repair needs.
Review daily assignments and coordinate priorities with the Shop Foreman.
Gather the necessary parts, tools, and equipment to complete repairs efficiently.
Complete work orders accurately, including mileage, operating hours, dates, and repair details.
Communicate emergency repair needs and priority equipment issues.
Work with the maintenance team to complete repairs and reduce equipment downtime.
Maintain shop tools and equipment in a clean, organized condition.
Follow all applicable safety procedures and regulations.
Travel to other locations or field sites for maintenance, repairs, training, meetings, and related assignments.
Perform additional mechanical duties as required.
Requirements
5+ years of maintenance experience with heavy equipment and/or track equipment, trailers, cranes, or similar machinery.
5+ years of experience in at least two technical areas, such as:
- Hydraulics
- Electronics
- Small engines
- Air conditioning
- Other related mechanical systems
- High school diploma/GED plus trade school, dealership/factory service training, or equivalent diesel mechanical training and experience.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize urgent repairs, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance are preferred.
Travel
Travel to other locations, training, seminars, meetings, or field assignments may be required.
Mechanics may travel to support equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, or emergency service.
Per diem and overtime are provided for qualifying travel.
Physical Requirements
Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
Ability to handle tools, equipment, materials, and mechanical parts.
Ability to work extended hours when required.
Comfortable working in varying weather conditions.
Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
Assistance is required for items weighing more than 75 lbs. or items that present ergonomic lifting or movement challenges.
Certifications & Training
Valid driver's license with good driving record.
Technical/vocational training or equivalent experience in diesel mechanical repair and maintenance.
Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance and repair are a plus.
Additional certifications may be required based on assigned duties.
