Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ), a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York, seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Health Coordinator to support our After-School Programs.

The Health Coordinator will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty through comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that creates opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

We are seeking dynamic and energetic Health Coordinators to oversee the implementation of Healthy Harlem programming within HCZ's After-School Programs. The Health Coordinator will be responsible for leading health and wellness initiatives that promote nutrition education, physical activity, healthy lifestyle habits, and family engagement. This position works closely with program staff, participants, families, and community partners to support positive health outcomes and reports to the Program Manager and Assistant Director of the assigned program.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree preferred in Public Health, Nutrition, Health Education, Recreation, Exercise Science, Community Health, Youth Development, or a related field 

• Equivalent combinations of education and relevant professional experience will be considered 
• 2+ years of experience working directly with youth and families in a health, wellness, education, recreation, nonprofit, or community-based environment 
• Experience implementing programs focused on health education, physical activity, nutrition, positive youth development, or community wellness 
• Experience leading, supervising, or supporting staff and program facilitators 
• Strong facilitation, relationship-building, and communication skills 
• Ability to engage with diverse populations and work effectively within multicultural communities 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic data tracking and reporting tools

What You'll Do

• Lead the implementation of Healthy Harlem programming, including nutrition education, physical activity, wellness initiatives, and family engagement opportunities
• Supervise, coach, and support staff responsible for delivering health and wellness programming to ensure high-quality participant experiences and outcomes
• Create engaging, age-appropriate opportunities that promote healthy habits, physical activity, nutrition awareness, and lifelong wellness among youth
• Partner with program leadership, staff, and families to support participant well-being and reinforce healthy eating and active living practices
• Monitor participation, program outcomes, and wellness-related data to evaluate program effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement
• Train and support staff in Healthy Harlem curriculum, health education strategies, and wellness best practices
• Develop and maintain partnerships with schools, community organizations, and service providers to enhance program offerings and participant access to resources
• Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of health-focused events, workshops, and family engagement initiatives
• Collaborate with program leadership to strengthen program quality, participant engagement, and overall health and wellness outcomes
• Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule

• This role requires an 8-hour shift Monday through Friday, scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Final hours will be based on program assignment and operational needs of the after-school site/program.
• Summer Schedule: To support summer camp operations, employees work an 8-hour shift within a schedule that may range from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Summer hours are determined by the site and program assignment you support during the school year.
