The Peer Recovery Specialist

This position will be housed within the Emergency Department

• Provide both group and individual recovery coaching to individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders.
• Maintain necessary documentation, patient health records and reports and records in appropriate files and database(s).
• Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from utilizing knowledge of the stages of change and the recovery processes.
• Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the recovering person’s goals and interests. This will involve a collaborative effort including the recovering person, agency staff, and other relevant stakeholders.
• Maintain contact by phone with recovering person after they leave the program to ensure their ongoing success and to provide re-engagement support in partnership with others in the agency if needed.
• Attend periodic meetings for identified service lines, treatment professionals, community coalitions or outreach activities as necessary.
• Provide Crisis Intervention Support as needed and as is defined within the Peer Recovery Specialist Scope of Practice.
• Consistently deliver the best in customer service and patient care. As a team member, demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with patients, families, visitors and other employees.

What We Require:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Completion of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health Peer Recovery Specialist 72-hour Training.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Be in recovery from a mental illness and/or substance use disorder for 2 or more years. Must be comfortable with disclosure of own recovery story and willing to use it within the Peer Recovery Special Ethical Guidelines

Compensation Range:

Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
