Job Summary
The Genetic Counselor provides advanced genetic counseling, education, and support to patients, families, and research participants who may have or be at risk for genetic conditions or variations. This role combines direct patient care with opportunities to collaborate across disciplines, support professional development, and contribute to initiatives that enhance clinical programs and patient access.Does this position require Patient Care?

Essential Functions
-Provides advanced genetic counseling, education, and support to patients, families, and research participants.
-Reviews personal and family medical histories, assesses genetic risk, and helps patients understand their options and care plans.
-Coordinates genetic testing workflows, including appropriate documentation, consent, and communication and disclosure of results.
-Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to support comprehensive, patient-centered care.
-Participates in clinical education, training, and professional development activities to expand knowledge and expertise.
-Provides mentorship and training to peers and trainees and supervises trainees as appropriate.
-Contributes to process improvement initiatives designed to strengthen clinical programs, workflows, and patient care.
-Supports advocacy and patient access initiatives that help improve the patient experience and access to genetic services.
Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree in Genetic Counseling required.

Licenses and Credentials
- Genetic Counselor [State License] - Generic - HR Only required.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in genetics required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong patient-centered communication and customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex genetic information clearly and compassionately.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
- Analytical skills and a strong understanding of molecular genetics and general chemistry.
- Ability to follow detailed clinical and survey research protocols with accuracy and consistency.
- Ability to work collaboratively with patients, families, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams.
