Position Overview
A well-established boutique civil litigation firm in Jacksonville, Florida is seeking an experienced General Liability Attorney to join its growing insurance defense practice.
This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 3–5 years of civil litigation experience, ideally within insurance defense, who wants sophisticated case exposure without sacrificing mentorship, accessibility to firm leadership, or long-term advancement opportunities.
The firm maintains a small-to-midsize, highly collaborative environment where shareholders remain actively involved in practicing law and are present in the office alongside associates. Attorneys receive direct mentorship from experienced partners while being given the opportunity to take ownership of their matters and continue developing their litigation skills.
The position offers a flexible hybrid schedule, although candidates must be able to work from the firm's Jacksonville office as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of general liability and insurance defense matters from inception through resolution.
- Handle matters involving:
- Medical negligence
- Premises liability
- Personal injury defense
- Wrongful death
- General civil liability claims
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, legal memoranda, and case evaluation reports.
- Conduct and defend depositions.
- Attend hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and other court proceedings.
- Assist with and participate in trial preparation and trials.
- Develop case strategy in collaboration with partners and clients.
- Conduct legal research and analyze complex factual and legal issues.
- Communicate directly with clients, insurance carriers, opposing counsel, experts, and other parties.
- Maintain organized case files and ensure deadlines and reporting requirements are met.
- Meet established billable-hour expectations while maintaining high-quality legal work.

Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar.
- 3–5 years of civil litigation experience.
- Strong preference for attorneys with recent insurance defense experience.
- Experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and substantive legal correspondence.
- Experience taking or defending depositions.
- Strong legal research and writing capabilities.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple cases and competing deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with partners, associates, paralegals, and support staff.

Billable Hours & Bonus Opportunity
The firm's billable-hour expectation is approximately:
- 500 billable hours per quarter
- Approximately 167.5 billable hours per month
Attorneys who meet established performance requirements are eligible for quarterly bonuses.
In addition, hours billed above the required threshold are compensated, providing attorneys with the opportunity to increase their overall earnings based on performance and productivity.

Base Salary: $90,000–$160,000
Compensation will depend on experience, litigation background, insurance defense expertise, and overall qualifications.

Team & Firm Structure
