Sobre esta vaga de General Counsel na Verse Medical
Our Mission: Hospital-Quality Care, Everywhere.
The healthcare industry still relies on faxes and phone tags to coordinate critical care for patients at home. We think patients and the clinicians who serve them deserve better than a system stuck in 1995.
Verse Medical is building the modern software infrastructure to make it happen. We're a well-funded Series C company (backed by General Catalyst, SignalFire, and Sapphire Ventures) on a mission to heal a fragmented system. Our platform connects the dots between providers, payors, and patients, ensuring people get the high-quality care they need, reliably and right where they live. We’re growing fast and looking for people who are driven by this mission to join us!
Our Values: The Principles That Guide Us
Our values are the operating system for how we work together and with our partners. They aren't just words on a wall; they are the principles we bring to every decision, every day.
We are transparent, upfront and direct. We operate with honesty and clarity. We share information openly, the good and the bad, and believe that direct, respectful feedback is the foundation of trust and progress.
We value speed of iteration. We are building something new, which means we learn by doing. We prioritize rapid iteration and getting solutions into the hands of users, believing that progress is more valuable than perfection.
We give 110% effort, 30% of the time. We are passionate about our mission, and there are moments that require us to go the extra mile. We believe in focused intensity when it counts, balanced by a sustainable pace that keeps our team energized for the long run.
We empathize with customers to a fault. When our users face a problem, we own it. Instead of asking them to change, we ask ourselves, "How can we make this better?" We believe true innovation comes from deep empathy and a relentless focus on solving the real-world challenges of healthcare.
Your Impact: How You'll Help Us Heal a Broken System
Verse Medical is a tech-enabled healthcare supplier providing specialized medical products and equipment nationwide. Our proprietary software platform automates traditionally manual workflows across intake, clinical documentation review, coverage determination, and billing.
We are hiring our first General Counsel to build and lead our in-house legal and regulatory function. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will serve as the primary legal advisor across multi-state regulatory compliance, payer contracting, and enterprise growth. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role responsible for establishing our legal foundation from the ground up.
What You'll Do
Regulatory & Healthcare Compliance: Direct multi-state healthcare regulatory strategy, overseeing DME licensure, accreditation, and compliance across Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer frameworks.
Commercial & Payer Contracting: Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of enterprise agreements with health systems and strategic partners.
Audit & Risk Mitigation: Manage payer audits, prepayment reviews, and risk management protocols across revenue cycle and clinical operations.
Product & Operational Counsel: Partner with Product, Engineering, and Clinical teams to ensure regulatory alignment before launching new service lines and software workflows.
Department Buildout: Act as a sole practitioner in year one, handling primary legal execution directly, while architecting the long-term legal and compliance infrastructure.
What You'll Bring: The Skills and Experience You'll Leverage
Required
JD and active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (NY admission or eligibility for in-house registration)
10+ years of legal experience, with substantial time spent on healthcare regulatory matters
Top decile attention to detail. Your work product is frequently flawless and “ready to ship” once you are done with it, you’ll act as the “quality check” for all of our compliance related activities.
Demonstrated depth in federal healthcare fraud and abuse law, applied to real commercial structures you helped design or defend, not just issue-spotted
Hands-on experience with Medicare and/or Medicaid reimbursement, coverage and payment: documentation and medical necessity standards, claims denials, and the audit and appeals process
Commercial contracting range: you have owned payer, provider or enterprise agreements end to end, and you can tell us which terms you fight for and which you trade
Comfort operating as the only lawyer in the building: you do the work, you make the call, and you are accountable for it
Track record of giving business-forward advice under uncertainty.
Willingness to work in a fast, sometimes chaotic environment where the answer often does not exist yet
Preferred
Direct DMEPOS, home health, post-acute, infusion or specialty pharmacy experience, as in-house counsel, at a firm with a real DME practice, or on the government side
Experience defending prepayment review, TPE, UPIC, RAC actions
Familiarity with the Medicare DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program
Experience as a first legal hire or first-in-function leader at a venture-backed company
HIPAA, BAA and health data privacy fluency, including state consumer health privacy statutes
Experience selecting and managing outside counsel against a budget
The Rewards & Reality: Compensation, Benefits & Logistics
Meaningful Compensation: $350,000+ base salary, plus a meaningful equity grant commensurate with a founding executive hire
Comprehensive Health & Wellness: We cover 100% of your health insurance premium and provide access to high-quality dental and vision insurance plans for you and your dependents.
Plan for the Future: We offer a 401(k) plan to help you save for your future. At this time, the company does not offer a 401(k) match.
Career Growth: You are joining as our first lawyer at a major inflection point, with the mandate and the runway to build the function.
Work Environment & Location:
This is a hybrid role based out of our New York City headquarters. We also have an office in San Francisco.
Please note that at this time, we are not able to provide visa sponsorship for this position. All candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
