Purpose of the role

The Senior Finance Business Partner is a strategic finance leader responsible for providing financial leadership and business partnering support to Amgen Japan’s General Medicine portfolio. This role serves as the primary finance partner to the Executive Director of General Medicine and the cross-functional leadership team, helping drive business performance, investment decisions, and long-term value creation.

The position combines deep financial expertise, strong commercial acumen, and advanced analytical capabilities to deliver actionable insights that support strategic decision-making. The role is responsible for leading short- and long-range forecasting, business case development, performance management, and financial planning activities while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making.

In addition, the role leads and develops a Finance Partner and plays a key role in advancing capabilities through adoption of innovative technologies, automation, and analytics.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Business Partnering

• Act as a trusted finance partner to the GenMed leadership team.
• Provide financial leadership and challenge to support strategic decisions, resource allocation, and portfolio prioritization.
• Influence business decisions via analysis of financial and non-financial drivers.
• Proactively identify risks, opportunities, and emerging trends.
• Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and fact-based decision-making.

Forecasting, Planning & Performance Management

• Lead development of short and long-term sales forecasts for the GenMed portfolio.
• Own OPEX forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning processes.
• Deliver robust financial analyses and scenario planning to support decisions.
• Monitor business performance against forecasts and targets, providing timely recommendations to optimize outcomes.
• Ensure financial commitments and forecasts accurately reflect evolving market dynamics and business assumptions.

Business Case Development & Decision Support

• Develop and evaluate robust investment proposals.
• Assess commercial opportunities, portfolio strategies, launch investments, and resource allocation decisions.
• Quantify financial impact, risks, and ROI to support leadership decision-making.
• Drive evidence-based recommendations that maximize value creation.

Data Analytics & Digital Innovation

• Leverage technology, advanced analytics, and visualization tools to transform data into actionable business insights.
• Integrate financial and non-financial data to provide holistic view of performance.
• Champion the adoption of digital tools, automation, and AI-enabled solutions to improve efficiency and decision quality.
• Simplify reporting processes and enhance analytical capabilities.

People Leadership

• Lead, coach, and develop a Finance Business Partner (Manager).
• Build high-performance team culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
• Provide mentoring and career development support alongside succession planning.
• Encourage innovation, constructive challenge, and continuous improvement.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance

• Drive process excellence and standardization across planning and reporting activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and insight generation.
• Ensure adherence to Amgen policies, compliance and controls.
• Partner effectively with regional finance to share best practices and drive alignment.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
• Significant experience in finance, business partnering, FP&A, or commercial finance.
• Demonstrated people leadership with direct management responsibility is preferred.
• Fluent Japanese and English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within the healthcare or life sciences industry is preferred.
• Strong understanding of commercial operations, portfolio management, forecasting, and market dynamics.
• Financial modeling, forecasting, and business case development capabilities.
• Experience leveraging data analytics, visualization tools, automation technologies, and AI-enabled solutions.
• Professional finance qualification (CPA, CMA, ACA, ACCA, MBA, or equivalent).
• Experience supporting senior commercial leaders in cross-functional organizations.
