Finance Manager Job Description (Full-time)
The Role
This is a genuine number-two-in-finance role: you'll be the CFO's right hand in a lean three-person team, owning the month-end close and management accounts, running the audit, and collaborating closely with our Senior Bookkeeper. You'll also get exposure to areas most people at your stage never see: treasury, regulatory reporting, board packs, and the commercial workings of a regulated fintech.
This is a Finance Manager title with a hands-on remit, designed for an ambitious part-qualified finalist or newly qualified accountant. You'll manage the transactional layer and own real deliverables, but you'll also still be in the detail yourself. If you're looking for a role where you actually build things rather than being a small cog in a big finance function, this is it.
Key Responsibilities
• Month-End Close: Ownership of the month-end closing process and the monthly reporting pack, including intra-group reconciliations with commentary for the CFO and board.
• Balance Sheet Control: Own balance sheet integrity, including monthly reviews of all control accounts, the fixed asset register, and intercompany balances and recharges across group entities.
• Revenue Recognition Oversight: Own revenue recognition across the group in line with FRS 102.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Support the annual budget process and produce variance analysis and commentary against budget for the monthly pack.
• Statutory Audit: Orchestrate statutory audits, act as day-to-day contact for our external accountants and auditors.
• Statutory Reporting: Oversight of local reporting requirements, VAT and GST filings and the preparation of financial statements.
• Tax Compliance: Coordinate corporation tax computations and filings with our advisers, and support any R&D or other claims.
• Regulatory Reporting & Capital: Assist the CFO with regulatory reporting and returns for an FCA-authorised e-money institution, including monitoring of own funds and safeguarding requirements against the FCA reporting calendar.
• Cash Flow Operations: Support treasury operations, cash flow forecasting, and reconciliation of client money flows.
• Team Management: Review the work of our Senior Bookkeeper (AR/AP, bank recs, expenses), acting as a day-to-day point of contact.
• Process Improvement: Build and improve financial processes, controls, and reporting as we scale, alongside ad hoc analysis, modelling and projects supporting the Company’s goals.
Who You Are?
• Experience: Part-qualified ACCA or CIMA (finalist stage preferred), or newly qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA. 3-5 years in a finance role, with genuine hands-on ownership of a month-end close. Some exposure to statutory accounts preparation or audit liaison, from either the practice or industry side. Multi-entity group experience preferred. Experience in financial services, fintech, or auditing regulated clients a big plus.
• Regulated Environment: Exposure to FCA regulatory reporting, safeguarding, or client money (CASS) environments - a big plus.
• Core Technical Skills: Strong double-entry fundamentals and hands-on month-end experience (industry or practice).
• Excel: Strong Excel skills and genuine comfort working with financial data. Comfort using AI tools to work more efficiently is a huge plus.
• Systems: Xero experience, ideally across a multi-entity group. Ability to work across multiple data platforms.
• Multi-Currency: Comfortable with foreign currency transactions, revaluations and consolidation.
• Meticulously Organised: Detail-oriented with strong organisational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines without dropping the ball, sound judgement with confidential information. Comfortable working to a fixed reporting calendar and hitting month-end deadlines consistently.
• Ownership & Autonomy: Self-starter who thrives with ownership and ambiguity. This is a small team, not a big-firm structure.
• Finance Processes: Experience improving or automating finance processes (desirable).
