Keller Executive Search is supporting an established Australian oil and gas exploration business in the appointment of a Finance Manager for its Brisbane office. Our client maintains a portfolio of domestic exploration and development interests, with a focus on financial sustainability, disciplined investment and long-term resource development.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Finance Manager will take ownership of accounting operations, management reporting, budgeting and financial controls. This appointment requires a technically capable finance professional who can translate financial performance into practical recommendations for senior management.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage financial reporting, accounting operations and month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Prepare annual budgets, rolling forecasts and financial performance reports.
• Oversee cash flow management, treasury activities and working capital requirements.
• Maintain effective internal financial controls and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards.
• Coordinate external audits, statutory reporting and corporate tax compliance activities.
• Evaluate project expenditure, operating costs and financial performance against approved budgets.
• Prepare management reports highlighting financial risks, variances and opportunities for improved efficiency.
• Support financial modelling and investment evaluations for exploration and development initiatives.
• Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, banking partners and financial advisers.
• Lead and develop the finance team while improving financial systems and reporting processes.

Requirements

• Minimum 8 years of experience in accounting and financial management.
• Previous finance management experience in oil and gas, energy, mining or capital-intensive industries.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and statutory reporting requirements.
• Demonstrated experience managing budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting processes.
• Proficiency in financial modelling, cash flow analysis and management reporting.
• Experience managing financial audits and maintaining internal controls.
• Strong analytical capabilities and the ability to communicate financial information to senior stakeholders.
• CPA or CA qualification.

• Experience with exploration accounting and resource development expenditure.

• Exposure to joint venture accounting arrangements.

• Familiarity with enterprise resource planning systems.

• Experience supporting capital investment evaluations or project financing.
