- This field-based position supports customers across Australia, New Zealand and the wider APJ region.
- The role requires frequent domestic and international travel, typically 50–60%, including travel to remote mining and industrial locations.
About the Role
Join our Field Service team as a Field Service Engineer– supporting Thermo Fisher Scientific's Minerals and PGNAA analyser portfolio.
You will be responsible for installation, commissioning, preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, upgrades and technical support of sophisticated online analyser systems used within mining, minerals processing and other industrial applications.
This customer-facing role combines hands-on technical expertise, structured problem solving and process understanding. You will progressively take ownership of assigned customers while working independently and collaboratively with Field Service, Product Support, Engineering, Applications and Sales teams.
What You'll Do
- Install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot and repair Minerals and PGNAA analyser systems.
- Support analyser platforms including AnStat, MSA, PSM, DSA, DDG, PGNAA Analysers and associated systems.
- Diagnose electrical, electronic, instrumentation, mechanical, software, networking and communication-related issues.
- Plan and execute field service activities independently while escalating complex issues appropriately.
- Provide remote technical support to customers and other Field Service Engineers when required.
- Develop strong customer relationships and take ownership of assigned customer sites.
- Support equipment upgrades, modernization projects, shutdowns and commissioning activities.
- Work with customer maintenance, operations and process teams to improve analyser performance and reliability.
- Maintain accurate and timely service cases and reports in Salesforce (SFDC).
- Identify service, spare parts, upgrade and modernization opportunities and communicate them to the appropriate teams.
- Collaborate with Product Support, Engineering, Applications, Sales and other Field Service Engineers to resolve technical issues.
- Develop competency across both Minerals and PGNAA technologies through structured training and field experience.
- Maintain required technical, safety and regulatory competencies and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
Radiation Safety & Regulatory Requirements
- Work safely with radiation-based analytical equipment, including systems incorporating sealed radioactive sources, neutron sources and X-ray generating apparatus.
- Perform radiation-related activities only when appropriately trained, licensed and authorised.
- Obtain and maintain required radiation use licences and/or authorisations across relevant Australian states and territories.
- Comply with applicable radiation regulations, company procedures, radiation management plans and customer requirements.
Keys to Success
Education
- Degree or equivalent qualification/experience in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Experience
- 2+ years' relevant experience in Field Service, instrumentation, automation, process control or industrial maintenance is preferred.
- Experience within mining, minerals processing, cement, coal, heavy industry or process industries is highly desirable.
- Experience with online process analyzers, PGNAA systems, elemental analyzers or similar analytical instrumentation is highly desirable.
- Experience with AnStat, MSA, PSM, PGNAA or other Thermo Fisher analyzer platforms is advantageous.
- Experience with installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of industrial equipment is desirable.
- Knowledge of minerals processing or other relevant process applications is advantageous.
- Experience working with radiation-based instrumentation is advantageous but not essential.

Travel & Work Requirements
- Willingness and ability to undertake approximately 50–60% domestic and international travel is essential.
- Current valid driver's licence and ability to drive to customer and remote site locations is essential.
- Ability to hold and maintain a valid passport and meet applicable international travel requirements.
- Ability to work at remote mining and industrial sites, including multi-day site visits.
- Flexibility to support customer shutdowns, commissioning activities and occasional urgent service requirements.
- Ability to meet customer site-access, medical, safety and induction requirements.
- Ability to safely perform hands-on service activities and handle tools and service equipment in accordance with company safety requirements.
