If you are a Design Engineer professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an opening for you! Based at our Sidney, OH location, this position entails higher responsibility for engineering drawing and technical documentation support for the Oil Free Centrifugal Product. It includes preparation of CAD/CAE models, detail and assembly drawings, design layouts, tolerance application, and corresponding Bills of Material and modified products. This position may include responsibility of technological analysis, priority planning, problem solving, and delivery of quality design outputs
AS AN EXPERIENCED DESIGN ENGINEER, YOU WILL:
Establish and document component and assembly specifications including definition of required geometry, materials, allowable tolerances, and related manufacturing processes.
Apply basic and advanced mechanical sciences to perform design analysis of products and components, including static/dynamic analysis, strength of materials, material selection and design optimization.
Support project teams to develop and document designs and specifications that meet the requirements of the product specifications and program charter.
Create and verify accuracy and consistency of engineering drawings and Cad/CAE models in accordance with corporate engineering standards and ASME 14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance requirements.
Verify design intent by checking proper fit-up of components using CAD and tolerance stack-up analysis methods.
Create Advanced design layouts of compressor assemblies, sub-systems, and components to establish spatial requirements, and fit-up and relationship of components to ensure functionality of design intent
Produce and utilize engineering calculations and operate computer programs to support design analysis and engineering efforts including spreadsheets and internet resources.
Produce and maintain accurate design records in accordance with specific project requirements using accepted corporate methods and Design Standards, including engineering notices, bills of materials, specifications and related documentation.
Provide support to engineering labs, manufacturing facilities, supplier quality, procurement, and advanced manufacturing.
Participate in global collaboration efforts with peer engineering facilities to develop drawing packages jointly and promote consistent design practices. Be responsible for the checking of global design project drawings to ensure design intent of project.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
2-5 years of work experience in related drafting and mechanical design in the manufacturing industry
Computational skills requiring comprehension of mechanical systems and the behavior of the components therein
Modeling and CAD skills using parametric, feature-based methods including Part, Assembly, and Kinematics modeling techniques to capture design intent
Understanding of basic component and process costs and the impact of related decisions
Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes and typical assembly and fabrication methods with some emphasis on comprehension of current practices
Drafting practices to meet industry standards, including ASME Y14.5.
PC skills including the use of Microsoft Office
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
Siemens NX and Teamcenter
Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, and forming processes
DFMA and production design techniques
Understanding of Gauging practices and Quality Control process
