Your Role
We’re hiring an Engineering Manager to join our Global Football and Rugby (GFR) division, overseeing two squads building the data infrastructure layer that feeds our customer-facing products like Statsbomb and Insight, flagship analytics products for global football.
As an Engineering Manager, you’ll:
- Lead with technical excellence. You’ll work closely with engineers to ensure we’re building high-quality, scalable software the right way, being involved in architecture and system design.
- Drive product delivery. You’ll partner with senior product managers and QA to understand business value, negotiate trade-offs, and oversee the successful shipment of new features in a fast-paced environment.
- Empower your team. You’ll manage approximately eight engineers across two squads, focusing on their growth and wellness while building a high-performing, healthy team culture.
- Champion AI-first engineering. We’re heavily invested in an AI-first mindset, and you’ll encourage your team to use AI tools and modern tech to stay ahead of the curve.
- Enable other squads to build on top of you. This role succeeds when other Hudl squads move faster because of what your team builds. You'll measure success by the number of squads migrated and capabilities unlocked.
Time spent collaborating with your teammates in-office will be a regular part of how you work. We’re currently considering applicants within commuting distance of London. You’ll be expected to work more days in-office than remote, but will have the freedom to coordinate your specific in-office schedule with your team.
Must-Haves
- Experienced. You have 3+ years of experience in engineering management, ideally with a background as an individual contributor or tech lead on platform, API or data infrastructure teams. Product EM experience is valued; this role requires platform depth alongside it.
- API-first. You have deep experience designing and evolving APIs for multiple customers, either internal or external. You understand why post-adoption changes are expensive and how to design to avoid them.
- Technically grounded. You have a strong technical background and are comfortable architecting complex software, specifically using C#, TypeScript, AWS, and PostgreSQL, GraphQL, with comfort across data-lake patterns.
- Credible engineering leader. You can build immediate trust with engineers through your technical knowledge, helping them navigate complex paths and system designs.
- Forward-thinking. You’re genuinely excited about AI-augmented engineering, not as a productivity tool but as a capability shift. You are building for AI-native consumers so you should operate like one.
Nice-to-Haves
- Broad tech stack. Experience with additional languages or tools beyond our core stack is valued.
- Domain passion. An interest in football analytics and working with products that serve elite clubs like Manchester City F.C. and Liverpool F.C.

Compensation
The base salary range for this role is displayed below—starting salaries will typically fall near the middle of this range.
We make compensation decisions based on an individual's experience, skills and education in line with our internal pay equity practices.
This role will also be eligible for a long-term incentive (LTI) award. Any bonuses awarded are based on individual and company performance paid at Hudl's discretion.
