Engineering Graduate Programme - September 2027

Hybrid/Onsite: Hybrid (initially office based with potential move to hybrid)

Working Pattern (Time/Hours): Monday-Friday, 8.30am-5.30pm

About the role

Veolia Ireland is seeking Engineering Graduates to join our Technical and EICA division in Kilkenny. Our formalised Graduate Development Programme is based on the 70:20:10 learning model, combining on-the-job experience, feedback and observation, and formal education and training. Progress will be supported through weekly and quarterly check-ins with your manager, alongside biannual reviews with HR and the Learning & Development Manager.

Depending on your engineering discipline, project requirements and level of experience, you may support one or more projects involving wastewater treatment plants and fresh water treatment plants. Your responsibilities will vary according to the scope, size and complexity of each project. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and receive support and guidance from experienced Engineers. 

Day to Day of the Roles:

Candidates will be considered for a role in one of the following teams:

1. Process Commissioning Engineering

• Provide process support and troubleshooting advice to clients and operational sites.

• Assist with concept designs and the evaluation of different treatment processes.

• Support the completion of detailed process designs for live projects.

• Help identify and implement operational-efficiency improvements at Veolia sites.

• Undertake water-chemistry analysis to support the evaluation of site processes.

• Work as part of an integrated design team covering process, mechanical, electrical, automation and civil engineering disciplines.

• Conduct site surveys and collect relevant technical information.

• Assist with the start-up and commissioning of new works at sites across Ireland.

2. Design Engineering

• Assist with the development of detailed engineering designs.

• Prepare drawings using CAD and Revit, with an emphasis on Building Information Modelling (BIM).

• Prepare design submissions under the guidance of Design Engineers and Senior Design Engineers.

• Liaise with mechanical and electrical designers, civil and structural designers, clients and other project stakeholders.

• Prepare pipework and valve take-offs.

• Assist with the preparation of procurement specifications.

3. Project Engineering

• Take ownership of delegated projects, work packages and project issues.

• Develop a thorough understanding of the contract requirements for assigned projects.

• Review and evaluate client specifications and liaise with clients and their representatives.

• Communicate effectively with the Project Manager, Design Leads and sub-consultants throughout project delivery.

• Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams on final design, equipment selection and procurement activities.

• Organise, coordinate and monitor design activities.

• Support the delivery of projects in accordance with Veolia’s health and safety standards.

• Monitor project budgets, programmes and key milestones to support delivery within agreed timescales and financial limits.

• Follow Veolia’s procedures for contract and project execution.

4. Electrical Design Engineering

• Assist Senior Engineers with ESB liaison and develop an understanding of utility-connection requirements.

• Review and interpret client specifications under appropriate supervision.

• Support the preparation of electrical designs, drawings and technical submissions.

• Develop knowledge of lighting, power distribution and auxiliary systems for water and wastewater facilities.

• Read and update single-line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams.

• Gain exposure to instrumentation selection and control-system design.

• Prepare cable schedules, I/O lists and basic electrical calculations.

• Assist with panel-layout designs, including MCCs, LCPs and MDBs, and support schematic reviews.

• Assist with procurement activities, including specification writing and quotation reviews.

• Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and develop an understanding of commissioning documentation requirements.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across design, contracts and automation.

• Build knowledge of relevant Irish, EN, IEC and WIMES standards.

• Participate in site visits to understand how designs are implemented during construction and commissioning.

Required skills for this role;

• A minimum NFQ Level 8 degree in an engineering discipline.

• The ability to work on your own initiative and contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

• Good organisational and time-management skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• A self-motivated, practical and solutions-focused approach.

• The ability to coordinate design and site activities effectively.

• Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and, where relevant, Microsoft Project.

• A full driving licence and willingness to travel to project and operational sites across Ireland, if required.
