A Brief Summary of This Position
The Electrical Assembler will be a highly motivated and talented individual responsible for assembling various parts to meet blueprint specifications. They will also perform inspections of components and parts for defects prior to assembly. They are responsible for reworking and testing the parts to ensure customer satisfaction. The individual will work as part of the production team to meet department goals and customer requirements while ensuring that department goals are met. The incumbent will also be a vital part of ensuring safe working practices are followed.
Other Important Details about the Role
Effective communication skills are essential for effectively coordinating with team members. This individual will be accountable for recognizing if a tool is not working properly and performing periodic maintenance. This individual will need to work overtime periodically. If applicable based on location, forklift operation may be required, and employees must be able to obtain and maintain proper certification.
Essential Functions
- Operate several types of hand and air tools to assemble products.
- Pick and install accurate UL labels.
- Use dexterity and finite finger movements and manipulation to assemble products.
- Follow color coating with wiring specifications.
- Interpret and implement functional test procedures in all products.
- Rework and retest errors that arise.
- Perform continuity testing and troubleshoot errors by comparing real life assembly.
- Read and accurately follow production blueprints, wiring diagrams and work instructions.
- Visually inspect components for defects prior to assembly.
- Responsible for writing reject tags, and reporting shortages.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate
- One (1) year of relevant experience.
- Ability to read and accurately follow production blueprints and instructions to build various assemblies.
- Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple distractions.
- Experience using hand tools in a professional environment.
- Able to use basic math addition, subtraction of whole numbers.
- The ability to work overtime when required.
- Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
- Initiative to make suggestions which will improve efficiency in operating the machines and/or parts production.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
- Prior wiring or electrical experience.
- Electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Experience working with Lean Manufacturing methodology.
Skill
- Basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fraction conversion).
- Ability to communicate orally and written.
- Ability to comprehend technical manuals, blueprints as we all as multi-step oral and written instructions in English.
- Ability to use computer for looking up items and email communications.
Job Training Skill Development
The Electrical Assembler will be able to construct basic assemblies and test them. To effectively perform this job, 3 months minimum training is typical. Must become proficient in building, wiring, and testing basic assemblies within the typical training period of three months. Operators will learn how to build, wire, and test basic assemblies to meet production goals.
Decision Making
This job requires the employee to make decisions that affect the quality of the products being manufactured. The employee will decide when to change tooling and if a part meets blueprint specifications. These are decisions that affect the employee’s own work quality and output. The employee must understand the processes and functions of the equipment to determine when abnormal conditions exist that require stopping the equipment or process. Must understand and use all testing equipment made available for testing assemblies for the specified jobs. Able to use initiative in solving major problems within everyday activities. Must have a good understanding of their own abilities and knowledge to determine when to seek help making decisions.
Physical Effort
Physical effort is moderate to heavy. The Electrical Assembler will be required to lift/carry parts weighing an average of 25 lbs. on an occasional to frequent basis. The Electrical Assembler will handle parts, tools, and equipment, gripping and grasping, on a frequent to constant basis repeatedly throughout the shift to assemble product. Although some items weigh more, a maximum lift of 50 lb. is all that is required. Climbing standing, bending, pivoting, and walking is required most of the time.
Working Conditions
This job is performed in an indoor shop environment. The temperature range can be from 100 degrees in the summer to about 50 degrees in the winter. Most operations may expose an employee to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil). Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments. Some outside work may be required but this is not common. This is a noisy environment that does not require hearing protection. Safety glasses and metatarsal safety shoes are required in the plant. The employees must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within this shop environment.
